29 years ago this June we tied the knot at the Graceland Chapel, and we keep coming back to our favorite city… But I highly doubt “most people spend at least a week” when they visit Las Vegas, sure there is a lot to do, but the pace, the crowds, the smoke, and the gluttony take a big toll. I come to Vegas just like I come to a craps table, hit and run, otherwise they get you. At my local card casino I am known as a hit and run specialist, in order to be a good player you need to set modest goals and leave when you achieve them, they are not building these places to facilitate easy money, except for themselves…
David, I look forward to every blog entry you make. But please, think twice before allowing a guest contributor. Mr Smith’s entry makes me question if he has ever been to Las Vegas and is unworthy of your blog. His writing is poor at best, “Never before has a place met so many casinos together”. His facts are simply wrong, “The city has been established in the early 18th century”. Worst of all, he simply doesn’t deliver what he promises, “Let’s see some of the most impressive things you can find in Las Vegas and which are the best places to gamble”. I get the feeling that although Mr. Smith is infatuated by Las Vegas (as are we all who read your blog), he only has limited knowledge of it at best.
The real question that Mr. Smith doesn’t address is how will Las Vegas come out of this pandemic? It faces more competition than ever before from local and on-line casinos. It’s very nature makes it an excellent vehicle to spread a virus like Covid-19. It doesn’t help that the relatively recent actions by many casino leaders have turned long time Vegas fans off. MGM looking to de-theme its casinos, the spread of greedy fees by restaurants and hotels, and the elimination of perks to low level players all have made Las Vegas less attractive to visitors. I think Las Vegas can have a bright future but only if the people running the casinos can see that they have to go back to taking care of the customer and delivering value. Something that has been missing from “The famous casino Strip by CityCenter” (really?) for some time now.
