Guess which ones will command the premium price points? And how many Strip hotels will be able to boast that the best views are to be had from the bathroom? Now <em>there&#8217;s<\/em> a marketing hook! But not as compelling &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10594\" title=\"Caviar buffet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Caviar-buffet-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Caviar-buffet-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Caviar-buffet-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Caviar-buffet-1024x681.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>&#8230; as all-you-can-eat caviar<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pitchengine.com\/brand\/previewpitch?brandid=18768e87-8bb8-452a-b034-6dd8334d76d8&amp;pitchid=76488a00-4f88-4605-9288-7f05d1a14263\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">For that kind of culinary largesse<\/a>, I&#8217;d gladly drop $38 at <strong>Bellagio<\/strong> on a buffet dinner. Of course, you&#8217;d need a wheelbarrow to get me back to the garage &#8230; especially after that theoretical, $8 &#8220;bucket of Bloody Marys.&#8221; However, you still have to go to <strong>New York City<\/strong> if you want to drop $666 on the <strong>Douche Burger<\/strong>, a caloric atrocity that seems tailor-made for the more uncouth elements of the Sin City clientele. A Strip restaurant that cross-pollinates a <strong>David Lynch<\/strong> TV series with <strong>Hooters<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thrillist.com\/eat\/las-vegas\/strip\/twin-peaks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seems like a hoax in the making<\/a>. But <strong>Twin Peaks<\/strong> is the real thing and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twinpeaksrestaurant.com\/locations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">but one of many<\/a>. Satire is quickly becoming impossible, especially &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230; when it comes to bizarrely<\/strong> imitative architecture. <strong>China<\/strong> has us hopelessly <!--more-->beaten &#8212; clobbered insensate, you might say. Not even <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> at most extravagant could match these. I guess we&#8217;ll have to come up with something original instead. Even the <strong>Philippines<\/strong> are giving <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> a run for its money, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Solaire_Resort_%26_Casino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">judging by $1.2 billion<\/a> <strong>Solaire Resort &amp; Casino<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/alvinc\/8560361904\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">whose design scheme<\/a> has my correspondents making comparisons to <strong>Wynncore<\/strong>. It certainly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/alvinc\/8560362472\/in\/photostream\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has that overripe look<\/a>. Or do you disagree?<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-8227\" title=\"Okada 2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Okada-2-103x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"103\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Okada-2-103x150.jpg 103w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Okada-2.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 103px) 100vw, 103px\" \/>U.S. casino operators<\/strong>, however, will undoubtedly continue to give the Philippine archipelago a wide berth, especially with the <strong>FBI<\/strong> looking into a little $25 million matter known to some as &#8220;bribery.&#8221; It looks like <strong>Kazuo Okada<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Universal Entertainment<\/strong> was a little careless with its petty cash, resulting in a &#8220;payment the company now says should never have been made.&#8221; Yeah, that&#8217;s one way of putting it when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/03\/18\/business\/global\/fbi-inquiry-over-casino-focuses-on-filipinos-fee.html?adxnnl=1&amp;src=recg&amp;adxnnlx=1363824470-NCQ4wEQGb+wK821wlqBlIA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">25 million clams have changed hands in exchange for land rights you got for free a year earlier<\/a>. Whoops. Since a <strong>Nevada<\/strong>-based Okada subsidiary was responsible for the jiggery-pokery, our friend Kazuo (<em>right<\/em>) finds himself in the hot seat again. Three mid-level flunkies have been blamed for the creative accounting, although Universal hasn&#8217;t explained how this came to be. As <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong> learned, almost too late, where Okada goes, trouble is close behind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>However<\/strong> &#8230; no Vegas casino has (to our knowledge) been taken to the cleaners in a $33 million caper. That&#8217;s what happened to <strong>James Packer<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Crown Casino<\/strong>, in <strong>Melbourne<\/strong>, where the internal-surveillance system was tapped into and turned against the house. &#8220;Packer&#8217;s 11&#8221; was evidently an inside job: &#8220;a member of gambling staff in the VIP area had been sacked,&#8221; reported <strong>SkyNews<\/strong> with poker-faced detachment. Things have been going so well for the misfortune-prone Packer of late, I suppose a kick in the pants from Fate was overdue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One of my sources<\/strong> insists &#8212; I repeat, insists &#8212; that <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> had a $500 million offer on the table for its <strong>Echelon<\/strong> site for at least a year. That&#8217;d be $5.75 million an acre, leading one to wonder why Boyd eventually deemed a considerably lower offer from <strong>Genting<\/strong> to be the better deal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Continuing a very occasional series, here are some casino-related ephemera that have washed up on the shores of cyberspace.
