But when he does, it&#8217;s a real brainwave. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/columns-blogs\/inside-gaming\/bold-move-has-caesars-top\" target=\"_blank\">Such has proven to be the case<\/a> with Caesars&#8217; purchase of social-gaming Web firm <strong>Playtika<\/strong>. The latter has blown past wildly overhyped <strong>Zynga<\/strong> to become the leader in its field. Seems that <strong>Farmville<\/strong> and <strong>Mafia Wars<\/strong> were no match for <strong>Slotomania<\/strong> or <strong>Bingo Blitz<\/strong>. The market could hit $2 billion this year. That&#8217;s peanuts compared to tribal gaming alone, but the growth arc is amazingly steep.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Caesars gambled on Playtika when it was still a risky venture, then doubled down by purchasing a content provider, <strong>Buffalo Studios<\/strong>. This makes up somewhat for the company&#8217;s inability to <!--more-->get <strong>Caesars Interactive<\/strong> out of the starting blocks, while <strong>Ultimate Poker<\/strong> laps it time and time again. However, the Playtika\/Buffalo parlay was a prudent risk. While <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> and <strong>International Game Technology<\/strong> are having a rocky ride with Zynga, it&#8217;s all smooth sailing aboard Playtika, it seems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6313\" title=\"Pansy_\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Pansy_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Pansy_.jpg 120w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Pansy_-109x150.jpg 109w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 120px) 100vw, 120px\" \/>Speaking of MGM<\/strong>, casino regulators in <strong>Maryland<\/strong> have been spending quality time in <strong>China<\/strong>. Their brief: Have a closer look at MGM&#8217;s <strong>Macao<\/strong> operation and its\u00a0tortured relationship with <strong>Pansy Ho<\/strong>. (Sauce for the Goose Dept.: <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> is also getting its linens inspected.) Since Pansy is now a minority shareholder in <strong>MGM Grand Paradise<\/strong> and mobbed-up father <strong>Stanley Ho<\/strong> is more or less a vegetable, it&#8217;s difficult to imagine the the <strong>Maryland State Lottery &amp; Gaming Control Agency<\/strong> and assorted law-enforcement groups turning up any dead bodies, so to speak &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/md-politics\/maryland-team-visits-china-as-part-of-background-check-for-pr-georges-casino\/2013\/07\/15\/93f7811c-ed6e-11e2-bed3-b9b6fe264871_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">although junket operators and the Triads who love them could always present a problem<\/a>. But <em>S&amp;G<\/em> thinks otherwise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><strong>If you can&#8217;t bring the casino to the highway<\/strong> &#8230; bring the highway to the casino. <strong>Foxwoods Massachusetts<\/strong> <a href=\"ww.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/regionals\/west\/2013\/07\/13\/foxwoods-plan-would-reroute-traffic-proposed-milford-casino-milford-casino-plan-would-add-ramps-access-road\/sbue4hXikJj6dUkGNKesBJ\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">is proposing to reroute three and a half miles of I-495<\/a> and build a second arterial road to alleviate congestion as gamblers <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11159\" title=\"Foxwoods Milford entry\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Foxwoods-Milford-entry-300x125.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"125\" \/>theoretically flock to its still-theoretical <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> casino. One presumes the $1 billion casino will pick up the $100 million tab, <a href=\"http:\/\/casino.milford.ma.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">but the answer is buried in a deep stack of online paperwork<\/a>. Scoffers say the project could take as many as 20 years, while supporters think it will be done in four. If <strong>Milford<\/strong> wants the casino <em>and<\/em> gets the nod from the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong>, we&#8217;re still talking about a three-year process or so, at least, so what&#8217;s the hurry? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-9106\" title=\"David_Nunes\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/David_Nunes-110x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/David_Nunes-110x150.jpg 110w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/David_Nunes.jpg 182w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 110px) 100vw, 110px\" \/>And, hey, look who&#8217;s turned up as Foxwoods&#8217; new talking head: It&#8217;s <strong>David Nunes<\/strong>, the all-hat, no-cattle developer who briefly had a rival casino bid that consisted of a butt-ugly rendering, much talk and little capitalization. Presumably his job is to put a local face on a carpetbagging project. After all, two of Massachusetts&#8217; three casino licenses could be awarded to <strong>Connecticut<\/strong> tribes. That wouldn&#8217;t go down so well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><strong>Other than a day spa<\/strong>, the plans for <strong>Neil Bluhm<\/strong>&#8216;s proposed <strong>Millbury<\/strong> slot parlor look very bare-bones. And don&#8217;t use the high-taxes excuse on us, Neil: We&#8217;ve seen you build fancier casinos in states with even loftier levies (<strong>Illinois<\/strong>, <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong>). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenewstribune.com\/2013\/07\/16\/2679895\/developer-unveils-plans-for-millbury.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">This just makes you look cheap<\/a>. Assuming that Bluhm&#8217;s somewhat underwhelming plan placates city fathers and citizens alike, it bids fair to be the weakest entrant in the Bay State&#8217;s slot-parlor contention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><strong>MGM, you just got anted up<\/strong> in western Massachusetts, where <strong>Hard Rock<\/strong> <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">International<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"> is playing for keeps in <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">West Springfield<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">. Its draft host-community agreement <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10455\" title=\"Hard Rock Springfield\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Hard-Rock-Springfield-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Hard-Rock-Springfield-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Hard-Rock-Springfield-150x85.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Hard-Rock-Springfield.jpg 665w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>includes a novel enticement: An <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2013\/07\/hard_rock_casino_host_agreemen.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">0.75% of gross revenues bonus that would rotate annually amongst several surrounding communities<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">, including MGM&#8217;s civic partner, <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Springfield<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">. Whether the bounty is enough to sway selectmen or voters, it&#8217;s hard to say. Compared to the dollar figures being flung about Massachusetts these days it&#8217;s paltry or realistic, depending on your perspective. Hard Rock also has to pony &#8220;surrounding impact payments,&#8221; so it&#8217;s not getting off cheaply. Still, <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Chicopee<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"> Mayor <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Michael D. Bissonnette<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"> has made it known that $3.4 million every six years isn&#8217;t enough. Pay Chicopee three mil <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">every<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"> year and then he&#8217;ll be ready to talk.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11160\" title=\"Mashpee 4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Mashpee-4-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Mashpee-4-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Mashpee-4-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Mashpee-4.jpg 738w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Christmas wish.<\/strong> The ever-luckless <strong>Mashpee Wampanoags<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tauntongazette.com\/news\/x1806124691\/Clock-ticking-on-Mashpees-land-in-trust-bid\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">whose case for casino eligibility looks awfully porous<\/a>, will now have to wait until either just before or after <strong>Santa Claus<\/strong> comes calling, if they&#8217;re to have a decision from the <strong>Bureau of Indian Affairs<\/strong>. Not that this keeps the Mashpee Wamps from blowing sunshine up our butts. Also, as the Tail-End Charlie in the race to get a casino, the Wampanoag tribe would likely have to scrape for funding, everybody else having gotten to the bank first.
