The <em>Vital Vegas<\/em> blog, in a canny satire, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vitalvegas.com\/skyvue-wheel-project-unveils-new-mascot-tiny-the-tumbleweed\/\" target=\"_blank\">has filmed a phony promotional spot<\/a> that stars SkyVue mascot <strong>Tiny the Tumbleweed<\/strong>. (Tiny is, of course, as credible as all of SkyVue&#8217;s projected timelines.) Of the many good lines, one of my favorites is:<!--more--> &#8220;<em>Rumors are circulating that the CGI version of the video may never become a reality due to budgetary constraints, and unconfirmed reports suggest the production team behind the video, including videographers, voice-over artists and editors, have yet to be compensated for their services<\/em>.&#8221; That&#8217;s SkyVue in a nutshell, folks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whoever&#8217;s behind <em>Vital Vegas<\/em><\/strong>, they have a sharp eye and a witty turn of phrase. (&#8220;<em>There\u2019s a lot to love about <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> and casinos, but sometimes <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4506\" title=\"elcortez-pic\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/elcortez-pic.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/elcortez-pic.jpg 299w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/elcortez-pic-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/>it gets awkward. You know, like having daycare services and video arcades inside casinos<\/em>.&#8221;) Recently, its author dropped by the <strong>El Cortez<\/strong> and found a sign <a href=\"http:\/\/vitalvegas.com\/that-moment-when-casino-marketing-gets-awkward\/\" target=\"_blank\">offering free play awards in return for $200+ ATM withdrawals<\/a>. Not content to stop there, the El Cortez also encourages customers to make withdrawals from their <strong>Electronic Benefit Transfers<\/strong> &#8212; i.e., unemployment money. If somebody wants to make that (bad) decision on their own, it&#8217;s a free country, brother. But for a casino to incentivize the practice? That&#8217;s deplorable and the El Cortez should be ashamed of itself. It may also be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rgj.com\/article\/20120320\/NEWS\/104230007\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">skirting the border of legality<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10660\" title=\"Rick Mazer\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Rick-Mazer-253x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"253\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Rick-Mazer-253x300.jpg 253w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Rick-Mazer-126x150.jpg 126w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Rick-Mazer.jpg 380w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" \/>After breaking in<\/strong> as a craps dealer in <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>, a ways back, <strong>Rick Mazer<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/press\/atlantic_city\/las-vegas-executive-to-take-over-caesars-properties-in-atlantic\/article_a1d0e231-15b8-514c-887c-82e964852986.html\" target=\"_blank\">is returning to the Boardwalk<\/a> as <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s new East Coast tribune. When <strong>Don Marrandino<\/strong> was ousted, Caesars tried dividing control of its Atlantic City properties between two different executives. But with Caesars having interests from up in <strong>Boston<\/strong> to down in <strong>North Carolina<\/strong>, a more widely empowered leader seemed necessary. Mazer turns in his <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Las Vegas<\/strong>\/<strong>Quad<\/strong>\/<strong>Flamingo<\/strong> portfolio in return for a more dog-eared one centering on a quartet of struggling A.C. casinos and a $126 million convention center in need of a jump-start. Or as <em>The Press of Atlantic City<\/em> puts it. &#8220;<em>Mazer&#8217;s job will be to revitalize those casinos, which have suffered declining revenue and lower profits amid Atlantic City&#8217;s seven-year slump caused by the fragile economy and gambling competition in surrounding states<\/em>.&#8221; Nothing to it!
