The city has already scheduled a Sept. 10 vote on a slot parlor, so Penn would have less than three weeks to negotiate the essential host-community agreement. As town administrator Joseph Fernandes says, &#8220;It has been a pretty intense roller coaster.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1048\" title=\"Younger Wynn\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Younger-Wynn-228x300.jpg\" width=\"228\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Younger-Wynn-228x300.jpg 228w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Younger-Wynn.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 228px) 100vw, 228px\" \/>Steve Wynn<\/strong> just can&#8217;t get over <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>. He&#8217;s been in (<strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong>), out, in again (the abortive <strong>Le Jardin<\/strong>), out again and even made a courtesy call a few\u00a0years ago, presumably sussing out properties in A.C. Now he wants a <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> online-gaming license, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/breaking\/casino-mogul-steve-wynn-eyes-new-jersey-internet-gambling-market\/article_d055c9ec-0aa7-11e3-a5ef-001a4bcf887a.html\" target=\"_blank\">which necessitates one of two things<\/a>. Either he partners with an existing casino or he buys one. The down-at-heels <strong>Atlantic Club<\/strong> (the former Golden Nugget) is on the market and who knows how <strong>Revel Resort<\/strong> would respond to a purchase offer &#8230; although it would seem a little rich for Wynn&#8217;s blood, especially when he&#8217;s committing close to a billion dollars to the <strong>Philadelphia<\/strong> market. No, more likely is that <strong>Wynn Interactive<\/strong> simply partners with one of the two, although Revel would be an affiliation more in keeping with the Wynn brand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Cordish Cos<\/strong>. came a step closer to having a slot parlor in <strong>Leominster<\/strong>, <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sentinelandenterprise.com\/news\/ci_23915881\/leominster-zba-grants-special-permit-slots-casino\" target=\"_blank\">It was cleared for a special zoning permit<\/a>, which paves the way for a\u00a0Sept. 24 up-or-down vote on the casino. The $200 million project is banking on its distance from the state&#8217;s three other casino regions to put its proposal over the top with the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong>. The latter finds itself in a pickle regarding <strong>Tewskbury<\/strong>. Voters there rejected the zoning change requested by <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong>, 39% to 61% &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/yourtown\/news\/tewksbury\/2013\/08\/_by_kathy_mccabe_globe_13.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">but still may have to vote on the casino itself<\/a> next Sept. 21.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11303\" title=\"MV Casino Rendering\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MV-Casino-Rendering-300x239.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MV-Casino-Rendering-300x239.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MV-Casino-Rendering-150x119.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/MV-Casino-Rendering.jpg 539w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Trouble is, nobody foresaw this scenario to the extent of writing into state law how a special election should be <em>canceled<\/em>. Penn, quickly striking its tent, supports scrapping the plebiscite and the MGC would like to do it, too. For now, it looks as though Tewksbury burghers will have to go through with an utterly meaningless vote. And if Penn turns its sites toward southeastern Massachusetts, it has until Sept. 30 to strike a host-community agreement, will be able to build a much bigger facility <em>and<\/em> faces no competition worth mentioning. It sure beats trying to hammer out a new slot-parlor HCA in a new town inside of week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After dithering for years<\/strong>, the legislature in <strong>Florida<\/strong> finally got around to outlawing <strong>Internet<\/strong> cafe-casinos. Now, unfortunately, the gray market that sprung up prior to the state&#8217;s action <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/allied-veterans-defense-it-wasnt-illegal-ap\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">may have precedents that open a loophole<\/a> and further sap the viability of brick-and-mortar casinos in the Sunshine State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update: Penn National Gaming has been tipped as a potential buyer for disqualified Plainridge Racecourse.
