(*<em>cough<\/em>*<strong>Gary Loveman<\/strong>*<em>cough<\/em>*) Although &#8220;high roller&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>Laughlin<\/strong>&#8221; seem oxymoronic, that hasn&#8217;t stopped Fertitta from dropping a bundle on the three-bedroom <strong>Gold Rush Villa<\/strong>, next door to the <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong>. Amenities are described as &#8220;<em>floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the <strong>Colorado River<\/strong>, a full kitchen, bar and expansive living area as well as a private garage and courtyard that sets the scene for the <\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11511\" title=\"Villa 2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Villa-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Villa-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Villa-2-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Villa-2.jpg 899w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><em>perfect relaxing evening or morning cup of coffee<\/em>.&#8221; Laughlin, a string of casinos on a slab of sun-baked, barren earth, has never seemed worth a drive &#8212; but Tilman&#8217;s got me rethinking that position. Good work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New York State<\/strong> Gov. <strong>Andrew Cuomo<\/strong> (D) has made quite a point of his ostensible neutrality on a constitutional amendment regarding the increase of <!--more-->casinos in the Empire State. However, the verbiage on November&#8217;s ballot question <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/09\/12\/nyregion\/ballot-measure-on-casinos-will-have-a-positive-slant.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">is raising some eyebrows<\/a>. Predictably, public-interest groups are crying foul and it&#8217;s understandable, given that the initiative speaks of &#8220;<em>promoting job growth, increasing aid to schools, and permitting local governments to lower property taxe<\/em>s.&#8221; That&#8217;s hardly value-neutral language. It&#8217;s more like a subtle kick of the ball onto the fairway. The casino measure will also be the first one listed on the ballot.
