(A modest increase in visitors didn&#8217;t hurt. Conventions were way down <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/las-vegas-visitor-count-climbs-slightly-in-august-ap\/#.UksDXYbOlvk\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">but tourism more than made up the slack<\/a>.) The volume of money wagered on non-baccarat table games was up 10% and players lost 22% more than last year. Despite an increase in coin-in, slot revenues were flat. This bounty did not extend to off-Strip casinos, where revenue was down 4.5%. <strong>Laughlin<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegassun.com\/news\/2013\/sep\/30\/table-games-lead-111-percent-spike-august-casino-r\/\" target=\"_blank\">had a good month<\/a>, up 6%, but <strong>Downtown<\/strong>, did not, falling 8%. Nor did <strong>North Las Vegas<\/strong> (-18%) or the <strong>Boulder Strip<\/strong> (-13%). Lake Tahoe stumbled a bit (-3%) but <strong>Reno<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rgj.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=2013309300025\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">was up 10%<\/a>, praise be.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boy, did the house win big last August.
