The lone bright spot was <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>, which beat expectations, up 1%. True, <em>Harrah&#8217;s Metropolis<\/em> was off 22% but strong numbers at <em>Harrah&#8217;s Joliet<\/em> (up 14%) pushed the company&#8217;s numbers into the &#8220;plus&#8221; column. Despite being by far the highest grossing casino in the Land of Lincoln &#8212; $35 million &#8212; <strong>Rivers Casino<\/strong> slipped 13%. <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> had a terrible month at all its properties: -11.5% at <em>Alton Belle<\/em>, 15% at <em>Empress Joliet<\/em> and -13% at <em>Hollywood Aurora<\/em>. Wrote J.P. Morgan&#8217;s Joseph Greff, &#8220;these results are generally reflective of the well-known softness in the\u00a0lower-end regional gaming consumer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It gives one an idea how little is expected from Illinois that <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>Par-A-Dice<\/em> slid 5% and <em>still<\/em> beat analyst expectations. In any event, operators need to find out what <em>Harrah&#8217;s Joliet<\/em> was doing last month and give it a try themselves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>G2E redux<\/strong>. Miss <strong>Global Gaming Expo<\/strong>? The <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em>&#8216;s <strong>Howard Stutz<\/strong> makes you feel<!--more--> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/business-press\/global-gaming-expo-shows-growth-industry-deals-many-issues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">like you attended the whole damn thing<\/a>. One can almost taste the stingray patties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objections to the expansion<\/strong> of casino gambling in <strong>New York State<\/strong> are coming from an unexpected direction &#8212; venues that specialize in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/NY-flag.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11704\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/NY-flag.jpg\" alt=\"NY flag\" width=\"204\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/NY-flag.jpg 204w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/NY-flag-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 204px) 100vw, 204px\" \/><\/a>performing arts. &#8220;<em>Because of casino revenues, they can subsidize all the acts, which means they can pay the performers more or they can charge less for tickets, and I think that can undermine the community based organizations that really add to the quality of life and add arts and culture to the community<\/em>,&#8221; complained\u00a0<strong>Albany Colonie Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> President <strong>Mark Eagan<\/strong>.
