In the former, <strong>New York City<\/strong> holds the key to the outcome. The Five Boroughs <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/nyc-voters-have-big-say-on-state-casino-measure-ap\/#.UnlCg_nOnw9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">are expected to represent for 42% of statewide<\/a>\u00a0voting. Mind you, NYC wouldn&#8217;t get a casino until 2020 at the soonest if <strong>Proposal One<\/strong> passes (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/press\/atlantic_city\/voters-to-decide-today-if-new-york-can-build-casinos\/article_8d78e138-1547-5212-acae-ca718a74e2a5.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">good news<\/a> for <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>), which it is expected to do, 60\/40. So <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/11\/04\/nyregion\/referendum-on-casinos-stirs-hopes-in-tiny-town.html?nl=todaysheadlines&amp;emc=edit_th_20131104&amp;pagewanted=all&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">Manhattan holds in its hands the fate of little burgs<\/a> like <strong>Nichols<\/strong>, home to would-be racino<strong> Tioga Downs<\/strong>. Sitting on the <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong> border, Tioga Downs theoretically could claw back some business from <strong>Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs<\/strong> but probably not much. Owner <strong>Jeff Gural<\/strong> has big plans for Tioga Downs, nonetheless, including a luxury spa and upscale entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s support for Proposal One <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uticaod.com\/news\/x1783713593\/Casino-expansion-issue-in-hands-of-voters-Tuesday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">even in areas where the question is moot<\/a>, due to previous accords with Gov. <strong>Andrew Cuomo<\/strong> (D,<em> above<\/em>). In the <strong>Catskills<\/strong>, abandoned resorts that have &#8220;has all the makings of a scene from <em>The Shining<\/em>&#8221; <!--more-->are putting their eggs in the casino basket, too. In a move from the <strong>Nevada<\/strong> playbook, a $500 fee per slot machine will go to fund pathological-gambling treatment programs &#8212; another Prop One incentive. Since five new VLT-only casinos will be permitted if Proposal One fails, opponents find themselves in a lose-lose scenario. <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> has been playing both sides of the fence: Despite having four casinos in Atlantic City and one in <strong>Chester<\/strong>, it gave $100,000 to pro-casino <strong>New York Jobs Now Committee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Mohegan-Palmer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11035\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Mohegan-Palmer-300x186.jpg\" alt=\"Mohegan Palmer\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Mohegan-Palmer-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Mohegan-Palmer-150x93.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Mohegan-Palmer.jpg 665w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Up in <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>, the prospect of a casino referendum in <strong>Milford<\/strong> (would-be home to <strong>Foxwoods Massachusetts<\/strong>) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/regionals\/west\/2013\/11\/03\/voter-registration-heavy-for-milford-casino-vote\/wdN6veMAXDvU5rE9wb8FTN\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has driven a surge in voter registrations<\/a> &#8212; probably a good sign for Foxwoods, although nothing in the Bay State has been predictable. <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong>&#8216;s generous deal with western <strong>Palmer<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>right<\/em>) goes before voters today and is expected to pass. The issue <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2013\/11\/mohegan_sun_casino_vote_coming.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">has traditionally polled well in the town<\/a>.\u00a0<strong>Clyde W. Barrow<\/strong>, director for the <strong>Center for Policy Analysis<\/strong> at the <strong>University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth<\/strong> is predicting a narrow win for Mohegan Sun. Two mills in town have closed and one of the three schools is hanging by a thread, giving voters strong incentive to pull the &#8220;yes&#8221; lever. Heavy turnout is expected in a plebiscite that&#8217;s too close to call. (<strong>MGM Springfield<\/strong>, meanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/bostonherald.com\/business\/media_marketing\/2013\/11\/mgm_six_flags_ink_a_springfield_casino_deal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">isn&#8217;t resting on its laurels<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m not making<\/strong> election predictions but <strong>Jeffrey Compton<\/strong> definitely is. He thinks the promise of new revenue for New York City (minus downside) <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/commentaries\/four-predictions-for-tonights-casino-related-elections\/#.UnlLCfnOnw9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">will put Proposal One over the top<\/a>. Suffolk Downs loses in a split decision: <strong>Revere<\/strong> yes, <strong>East Boston<\/strong> no: &#8220;the Caesars\u2019 fiasco is just too big of a log for the camel.&#8221; Finally, he thinks Palmer will say &#8220;aye&#8221; &#8212; and that if it doesn&#8217;t, it&#8217;s time to rethink this whole Bay State experiment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/westin-casuarina-hotel-las-vegas.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1481\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/westin-casuarina-hotel-las-vegas-300x172.jpg\" alt=\"westin-casuarina-hotel-las-vegas\" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/westin-casuarina-hotel-las-vegas-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/westin-casuarina-hotel-las-vegas-150x86.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/westin-casuarina-hotel-las-vegas.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>777 Gaming<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/nevadan-work-exec-aims-pump-vibrancy-westin-casuarinas-casino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">which operates a slew of upstate<\/a> <strong>Nevada<\/strong> casinos and the one inside the <strong>Westin Casuarina<\/strong> has had a not-so-bright idea. <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/causuarina-casino-name-dropped-for-max-casino-ap\/#.Unk_NvnOnw-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">It plans to re-dub the Westin&#8217;s gambling area<\/a> <strong>Max Casino<\/strong>. That evokes the days that the property was known as the Maxim &#8230; and those weren&#8217;t good years for the property. <em>Casino Executive Magazine<\/em>&#8216;s &#8220;Casino Critic&#8221; gave the Maxim his only-ever &#8220;F&#8221; grade, asking, &#8220;Is death contagious?&#8221; The Maxim closed soon after. Please, 777, forget this &#8220;Max Casino&#8221; madness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In a not-exactly-george<\/strong> offer, the <strong>Menominee Tribe<\/strong> is making a grand gesture of taking 30 slot machines (yes, 30) offline in return for getting 3,100 at <strong>Dairyland Greyhound Park<\/strong>. The cream of the jest is that the Menominee are calling this &#8220;no net increase&#8221; in gaming in <strong>Wisconsin<\/strong>. The state&#8217;s governor, <strong>Scott Walker<\/strong> (R), <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/walker-questions-whether-casino-increases-gambling-ap\/#.Unk-WvnOnw9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">doesn&#8217;t seem to be falling for it<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s a big day for casino-related votes in New York State and Massachusetts.
