Strange as it may seem, Caesars <em>does<\/em> have the cash on hand for this superficially frivolous purchase, despite all its troubles on <strong>Wall Street<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Atlantic Club waitress <strong>Pat VanWoeart<\/strong> was in deep denial, saying, &#8220;<em>We knew someone would buy us, but we just didn\u2019t expect someone would buy us to cut out the competition, because we are <!--more-->the best boutique casino in the city. But Caesars came, and I guess they just can\u2019t stand the competition<\/em>.&#8221; Yup, that must be it.<\/p>\n<p>It was an economic fact of life that there wasn&#8217;t enough gambling to go around in <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> and one or two other casinos might have to pack it in. Also, this marks the end of the <strong>Colony Capital<\/strong> era in the casino industry, to which one can only say: Good riddance to bad rubbish.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CityCenter<\/strong> must be wondering if it will ever be rid of the <strong>Harmon Hotel<\/strong>. Demolition was to have started three weeks ago and keeps getting pushed back. D-Day is <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/fate-of-unfinished-harmon-hotel-delayed-until-jan-17-lvrj\/#.UriLKfTOkWJ\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">now somewhere in mid-January<\/a>. CityCenter wants to get on with suing for its $393 million in construction costs but insurer\u00a0<strong>FM Global<\/strong> continues to make a convincing case that it&#8217;s not had enough time to inspect the derelict hotel.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Scott_Butera.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-10887\" alt=\"Scott_Butera\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Scott_Butera-150x114.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Scott_Butera-150x114.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Scott_Butera-300x228.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Scott_Butera.jpg 335w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Foxwoods Massachusetts<\/strong>, having been smacked down in <strong>Milford<\/strong>, is recovering and looking to get back into the hunt. CEO <strong>Scott &#8220;Woody&#8221; Butera<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/2013\/12\/23\/foxwoods-itching-get-back-into-massachusetts-casino-hunt\/EhZYgN6PEPYOid1yCFZoUJ\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">is kicking the tires on the southeastern region<\/a> (barring a miracle, the only one Foxwoods could get into at this point). He&#8217;s had serious talks with <strong>Fall River<\/strong>, home of <strong>Lizzie Borden<\/strong>, and the license won&#8217;t be awarded until next November, giving him plenty of time to look. If the casino-selection process in Massachusetts seems like dozy affair, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/business-news\/index.ssf\/2013\/12\/casinos_not_such_a_big_deal_in_boston_wh.html#incart_river\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">you&#8217;ve got good company<\/a> from <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong> and others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Running for cover<\/strong>. Lest he incur anyone&#8217;s wrath, <strong>Wisconsin<\/strong> Gov. Scott Walker (R) may hold off on the controversial <strong>Dairyland<\/strong> casino ruling.
