As drafted by Seum, the bill would simply permit seven casinos (Clark wants eight). Locations would be set in other, as-yet-unwritten legislation. Horsemen will be beneficiaries of the casino bill, to the tune of 10% of taxed revenues.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I don\u2019t harbor false hopes, but I\u2019m encouraged that for the first time we\u2019re getting some very meaningful conversations from both sides of the aisle in both houses<\/em>,&#8221; said Gov. <strong>Steve Beshear<\/strong> (D, <em>right<\/em>), who&#8217;s been trying to sell the Bluegrass state on casino gambling since 2007.<\/p>\n<p>A growth period in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> air traffic <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/mccarran-passenger-numbers-unchanged-in-november-ap\/#.Urx_lfTOkWJ\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">flattened out in November<\/a>, ending four months of gains. The problem seems to lie, in part, in <!--more-->service cuts by overseas airlines like <strong>VivaAerobus<\/strong>. Several domestic carriers also reported declines, although few as deep as the 13% posted by <strong>Frontier<\/strong>. On the flip side of the coin, <strong>Spirit Airlines<\/strong> was up 25%, which certainly helped the overall picture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You know your<\/strong> casino&#8217;s small potatoes when its amenities include &#8220;a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week convenience store with eight fueling stations.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tulsaworld.com\/business\/employment\/osage-casino-and-hotel-opens-in-ponca-city\/article_c1885f51-b463-5c5f-bf5f-f3a6bd075fc1.html\" target=\"_blank\">That&#8217;s among the signature attractions<\/a> of new <strong>Osage Casino &amp; Hotel<\/strong>. The small, <strong>Oklahoma<\/strong> casino is the latest production of <strong>Marnell Architecture<\/strong>, once one of Las Vegas&#8217; leading firms but now seemingly fallen upon evil days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There&#8217;s nothing<\/strong> like the smell of casino money <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2013\/12\/longmeadow_cites_independent_t.html#incart_river\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">to bring out the greed<\/a> in surrounding communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There will be yet another push for casino gambling in the Kentucky Legislature, with hopes of getting a constitutional amendment on the 2014 ballot.
