Baccarat players lost their shirts, with the house winning 94% more than the previous year. Less play and looser hold meant less win for the house at slots (-4%) but non-baccarat table win rose 34%. However, what was sauce for the Strip was not so for outlying jurisdictions. Downtown Vegas was off by a point, <strong>Laughlin<\/strong> fell 14%, but <strong>Reno<\/strong> was up 17% and the <strong>Carson Valley<\/strong> area rose 7%. Locals were keeping their purses tight: The <strong>Boulder Strip<\/strong> dropped 9% and <strong>North Las Vegas<\/strong> fell 14%. Looking ahead, room rates on the Strip are estimated to be 14% higher in the first quarter of next year.<\/p>\n<p>If so, we end 2013 with <!--more-->an equivocal outlook for the locals and border jurisdictions, but clear recovery on the Strip. Chris Christie&#8217;s five-year plan for <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> and already the dyspeptic politico\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hosted.ap.org\/dynamic\/stories\/U\/US_CHRISTIE_ATLANTIC_CITY?SITE=AP&amp;SECTION=HOME&amp;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&amp;CTIME=2013-12-29-12-36-25\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">is losing patience<\/a>. He&#8217;s already talking about &#8220;considering alternatives,&#8221; which would include racinos and a <strong>Meadowlands<\/strong> casino, barring &#8220;significant results&#8221; from the Boardwalk. So, no pressure. Closures of <strong>Trump Plaza<\/strong>, the <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong> and the <strong>Showboat<\/strong> are being bruited about, and a second Revel Resort bankruptcy looms. It&#8217;s also noted that Christie&#8217;s not taking the effects of Hurricane Sandy into account. That&#8217;s a fair accusation, as the governor suddenly seems keen to be on the winning side, regardless of which one it is.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10702\" alt=\"Wynn Everett\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett-300x131.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett-300x131.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett-150x65.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>No surprise here<\/strong>. In a relatively predictable development, Wynn Resorts <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/wynn-resorts-found-suitable-to-build-massachusetts-casino-lvrj\/#.UsMWevTOkWJ\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">was found suitable<\/a> to operate in <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>. Of all the major contenders, Wynn had the fewest question marks attached. &#8220;O<em>n the whole, it is clear \u2026 that the applicant has created a dynamic within its company that promotes strict regulatory compliance<\/em>,&#8221; proclaimed the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong>. Now Wynn Resorts can get down to the business of clobbering <strong>Suffolk Downs<\/strong> in the all-important &#8220;wow factor&#8221; contest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gather ye rosebuds<\/strong> while yet ye may at <strong>Maryland Live<\/strong> and <strong>Charles Town Races<\/strong>, because <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/commentaries\/with-national-harbor-decision-battle-for-washington-dc-casino-market-enters-newest-phase\/#.UsMZZPTOkWJ\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">is coming for a big chunk of your action<\/a>. Both are likely to suffer at the lion&#8217;s paws but, due to <strong>National Harbor<\/strong> being on the east side of the capitol city, Maryland Live may have the harder time of it.
