(As expected, <strong>Greenwood Racing<\/strong> also signed away its prerogative to litigate.) Perhaps the fact that Penn&#8217;s <strong>Rosecroft Raceway<\/strong> proposal got <em>not one vote<\/em> had something to do with the decision.\u00a0With the stroke of a pen, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/business\/bs-bz-no-lottery-challenge-20140204,0,2838809.story\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">the two companies regained an aggregate $46.5 million<\/a> in licensing fees. And they can go back to jockeying over who gets a slot parlor in <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> and a casino in <strong>Philadelphia<\/strong>. Greenwood and Penn are butting heads wherever there&#8217;s a battlefront, seems like.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Taking a page from Massachusetts<\/strong>, lawmakers in <strong>New York State<\/strong> are floating the idea of\u00a0<!--more--><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Krueger.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12660\" alt=\"Krueger\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Krueger.jpg\" width=\"192\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Krueger.jpg 192w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Krueger-109x150.jpg 109w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 192px) 100vw, 192px\" \/><\/a>\u201c<em>protecting the basic home rule rights of municipalities with respect to casino siting<\/em>,\u201d by allowing cities and towns to have voting power over whether or not a casino is allowed within city lines.\u00a0\u201c<em>This [expansion] plan will never work if Albany bureaucrats are forcing casinos down the throats of communities that don\u2019t want them and can\u2019t accommodate them<\/em>,\u201d said Manhattanite and co-sponsor state Sen. <strong>Liz Krueger<\/strong> (D).\u00a0Given the level of opposition to casinos upstate, this is probably smart politics but it also sets up a scenario whereby <strong>New York City<\/strong> and its environs can thwart casinos when they (the cities) become eligible in 2020. At present, casino siting is in the hands of an as-yet-unappointed committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Casino expansion<\/strong> in <strong>New Hampshire<\/strong> is off to a strong start, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.concordmonitor.com\/home\/10534604-95\/one-casino-gambling-bill-sees-early-support-from-more-than-100-lawmakers\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">108 legislators declaring their support<\/a>. &#8220;<em>The bill would allow for one casino awarded to a licensee through competitive bidding that is subject to strict regulations<\/em>.&#8221; Taxed proceeds would be used to fund treatment of problem gambling, and the whole kit &#8216;n kaboodle would be brought under the umbrella of the <strong>New Hampshire Gaming Commission<\/strong>, which oversees racing, the state lottery, charitable gambling and whatever new regulatory framework casinos would require. The one-casino-only bill still faces long odds in the state House, though.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bowl was super<\/strong>. It certainly was for <strong>CG Technology<\/strong>. The former <strong>Cantor Gaming<\/strong> outperformed the market, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/cg-technology-sports-books-win-232-million-super-bowl-wagers\" target=\"_blank\">recording 16% of all wagers<\/a> at its eight sports books. It held over $2 million, a 55% increase from last year. The $19 million in wagers made at CG books was a 30% bump from 2013&#8217;s <strong>Super Bowl<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For most jurisdictions<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2014\/02\/05\/macau-revenues-idUSH9N0KK01G20140205\" target=\"_blank\">7% monthly growth in revenue<\/a> would be cause for celebration. &#8220;Most jurisdictions,&#8221; however, are not <strong>Macao<\/strong>. &#8220;Disconcerting,&#8221; analyst <strong>Carlo Santarelli<\/strong> called the numbers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a rare moment of grace, Penn National Gaming agreed not to sue Prince George&#8217;s County over the award of a Maryland casino project to MGM Resorts International.
