{"id":12714,"date":"2014-02-11T13:10:43","date_gmt":"2014-02-11T21:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/?p=12714"},"modified":"2023-02-03T08:20:27","modified_gmt":"2023-02-03T16:20:27","slug":"sheldon-adelson-bogeyman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/sheldon-adelson-bogeyman\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheldon Adelson, bogeyman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Update<\/strong>: <em>Somebody <a href=\"http:\/\/vitalvegas.com\/las-vegas-sands-corp-ceo-sheldon-adelson-victims-massive-cyber-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">returned the favor by hacking<\/a> into <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong>&#8216; Web sites, taking out several home pages and posting inflammatory imagery<\/em>. &#8220;<em>The sites also featured a list of confidential employee information and Social Security numbers,<\/em>&#8221; <em>reported the<\/em> Las Vegas Sun. <em>Details of the cyber-attack <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/news\/websites-owned-las-vegas-sands-casinos-taken-down-after-being-hacked\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">continue to emerge<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong>&#8216;s newest panic tactic <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/gambling-industry-fights-self-on-internet-gambling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">began airing yesterday<\/a>. It&#8217;s so derriere-garde in its Red Scare methods, you expect the announcer to yell, &#8220;The Russkies are coming!&#8221; Ironically, by stressing the convenience of Internet gambling the TV spot makes it look that much more appealing. <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong>&#8216; own internal money controls have drawn federal scrutiny, so Mr. Glass House is <!--more-->the last person who should be throwing stones. However, Adelson isn&#8217;t known for his ironic side, hence these over-the-top bogeyman ploys.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong>-backed\u00a0<strong>Coalition for Consumer &amp; Online Protection<\/strong> is taking its fight to <strong>Capitol Hill<\/strong>, seeking federal regulation. One supposes, with Adelson stirring up trouble in <strong>Washington, D.C.<\/strong>, that the AGA and its allies have to push back, but this is a battle that will be won or lost at the state level.
