While <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> struggles to make its Web sites fully functional again, Adelson&#8217;s cyber-tormentors are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/youtube_screen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-12789\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/youtube_screen-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"youtube_screen\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/youtube_screen-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/youtube_screen-150x91.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/youtube_screen.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>taking a victory lap. A &#8220;<strong>Zhao Anderson<\/strong>&#8221; posted an 11-minute video to <strong>YouTube<\/strong>, emblazoned with taunts and showing proprietary company data of the most sensitive nature. Also, Sands officials <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/las-vegas-sands-now-says-hacking-went-deeper-than-previously-realized\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">are having to admit that the damage was worse<\/a> than customers and media were initially led to believe. &#8220;<em>We have now determined that the hackers reached at least some of the company\u2019s internal drives in the U.S. containing some office productivity information made up largely of documents and spreadsheets<\/em>,&#8221; conceded spokesman <strong>Ron Reese<\/strong>. \u201c<em>We &#8230; are continuing to investigate what, if any, customer or additional employee data may have been compromised as part of the hacking<\/em>.\u201d In other words, Sands doesn&#8217;t know how bad the damage is. If Adelson isn&#8217;t chilled by that, he ought to be.<\/p>\n<p>Reese says &#8220;<em>said the company did not know about the additional incursions<\/em>&#8221; into <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/las-vegas-sands-now-says-hacking-went-deeper-than-previously-realized\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">employee data and a map of the company&#8217;s internal networks<\/a> &#8220;<em>until it started investigating the video<\/em>,&#8221; according to <strong>The Associated Press<\/strong>.<!--more--> &#8220;<em>We have now determined that the hackers reached at least some of the company\u2019s internal drives in the U.S. containing some office productivity information made up largely of documents and spreadsheets<\/em>,&#8221; Reese said. Considering that the Feb. 11 cyber attack wasn&#8217;t an isolated incident and the hackers are always two steps ahead of Sands, the latter should brace itself for yet more digital defacement.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Adelson.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6896\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Adelson-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Adelson\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Adelson-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Adelson-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Adelson.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>If that weren&#8217;t<\/strong> enough bad news for Adelson, <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/regwatch\/technology\/198625-poll-leave-online-gambling-to-states\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">a new poll shows 57% of Americans opposed<\/a> to a federal ban on Internet gambling. The survey sampled 1,000 voters and was weighted toward the three states &#8212; <strong>Nevada<\/strong>, <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> and <strong>Delaware<\/strong> &#8212; where Internet gambling is legal. Surprisingly, even more Republicans (74%) than Democrats (70%) supported leaving the issue to the states. (Surprising, I guess, in that the GOP has become synonymous with Sheldon G. Adelson.)<\/p>\n<p>With language like &#8220;trample on the rights,&#8221; I am suspicious of this poll, as much as I am by a push poll that Adelson was waving around not long ago. Opposition to online gambling was &#8220;strong&#8221; among 22% of respondents. The poll was bought by the\u00a0<strong>Coalition for Consumer &amp; Online Protections<\/strong>, which is basically a subset of the <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong>, minus Las Vegas Sands.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Pushing-Luck.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-12788\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Pushing-Luck-150x84.jpg\" alt=\"Pushing Luck\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Pushing-Luck-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Pushing-Luck-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Pushing-Luck.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Florida<\/strong> Gov. <strong>Rick Scott<\/strong> (R)\u00a0is hiding behind the Legislature where the question of expanded gambling is concerned (<a href=\"http:\/\/miamiherald.typepad.com\/nakedpolitics\/2014\/02\/poll-shows-strong-miami-dade-support-especially-whispanics-for-vegas-style-casinos.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">despite strong support among south Floridians<\/a>). That&#8217;s not going to help, especially when anti-gambling activists like <strong>John Sowinski<\/strong> are making theatrical bookings for their cine-polemic, <em>Pushing Luck<\/em>. &#8220;<em>We&#8217;re ramping up &#8230; to stop these gambling interests in their tracks that want to bring gambling to Florida<\/em>,&#8221; said Sowinski, as though the state wasn&#8217;t already thick with casinos and parimutuels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If Sheldon Adelson hasn&#8217;t come to regret his &#8216;nuke Iran&#8216; rant he may soon do so.
