There&#8217;s an obvious conflict presented by the proximity of <strong>Parx Casino<\/strong>, put thusly but the attorney for <strong>Joseph &#8220;Tomato King&#8221; Procacci<\/strong>, &#8220;<em>To give Parx a casino license in South Philadelphia while they have one sitting right on top of the northern tip of Philadelphia would be essentially granting them a monopoly over Philadelphia gambling<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Pennsylvania-064.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5553\" alt=\"Pennsylvania 064\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Pennsylvania-064-300x219.gif\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Pennsylvania-064-300x219.gif 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Pennsylvania-064-150x109.gif 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Pennsylvania-064.gif 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Agreed. Also, the Parx ownership structure has trouble passing the smell test. Yes, <strong>Cordish Gaming<\/strong> has a 50% stake but <strong>Greenwood Racing<\/strong> principal <strong>Watche &#8220;Bob&#8221; Manoukian<\/strong> divvied his half of the project between Parx and a trust for his sons &#8230; controlled by Manoukian. But the arrangement that most noxiously fails the smell test is <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s decorative nonprofit partner. According to the <em>Philadelphia Inquirer<\/em>, the tax-exempt stalking horse, er, partner would get two-thirds of <em>net<\/em> cash flow. &#8220;<em>That&#8217;s the amount left after <!--more-->management fees paid to Penn National, rent paid to a landlord, licensing and branding fees to use the <strong>Hollywood Casino<\/strong> name, plus debt service.\u00a0Penn National would collect $278 million during the first 15 years, towering over the $115 million for the nonprofit, according to projections from the <strong>Philadelphia Controller&#8217;s Office<\/strong><\/em>.&#8221; This is the lone Philly casino proposal that has stunk to high heaven from Day One.<\/p>\n<p>At any rate, Penn&#8217;s lack of a central location may tell heavily against it and regulators may want to diversify ownership in the Keystone State, not concentrate it. In fairness, it must be said that the Pennsylvania set it itself up for this when it gave both the <strong>Pittsburgh<\/strong> and the first Philadelphia license to politically connected <strong>Neil Bluhm<\/strong>, instead of rebidding the Pittsburgh one when <strong>Don Barden<\/strong> crashed and burned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wading deeper<\/strong> in to the quagmire that is <strong>Revel Resort<\/strong>, the State of <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.app.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=2014303160019&amp;nclick_check=1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">plans to invest $300 million with owner<\/a> and hedge fund <strong>Chatham Asset Management<\/strong>. Supposedly the transfer of funds won&#8217;t occur until Chatham has liquidated its position in Revel but &#8220;no firm timetable&#8221; for getting out exists. The provisional decision has left <strong>Unite-Here<\/strong> President <strong>Robert McDevitt<\/strong> sputtering on the sidelines again. &#8220;<em>I can\u2019t think of anything that\u2019s come out of this project that\u2019s positive<\/em>,&#8221; he fumed in a letter to the <strong>New Jersey Investment Council<\/strong>. Well, <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> got some impressive <strong>Beyonce<\/strong> concerts from it, Bob.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Maco-table-action.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13023\" alt=\"Maco table action\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Maco-table-action.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Maco-table-action.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Maco-table-action-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Croupier wages<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/macaubusinessdaily.com\/Gaming\/Inflation-hampers-earnings-rise-casino-croupiers\" target=\"_blank\">aren&#8217;t keeping pace with inflation<\/a> in <strong>Macao<\/strong>, which could the cause of further labor-government tensions. Also, over a thousand table-game jobs remain unfilled, creating pressure to import more guest workers from the mainland.
