(This must be one of those occasions when it&#8217;s OK to be &#8220;anti-business.&#8221;) As reported earlier the Senate version has the backing of Sen. <strong>Lindsey Graham<\/strong> (R-S.C.) and the House one is the creature of Rep. <strong>Jason Chaffetz<\/strong> (R-UT). Each has picked up at least one Democratic ally. Sen. <strong>Dianne Feinstein<\/strong> (D-CA, <em>right<\/em>) <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/bills-introduced-in-congress-banning-online-gaming\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">has rallied to Graham&#8217;s side<\/a>, while Chaffetz has Rep. <strong>Emanuel Cleaver<\/strong> (D-MO), Rep. <strong>Tulsi Gabbard<\/strong> (D-HI) and Rep. <strong>Jim Matheson<\/strong> (D-UT) among those in his corner.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps they figure they can subsequently hit up <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> for some re-election money. (One early draft of the bill bore the fingerprints of <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> veep <strong>Andy Abboud<\/strong>.) Nevada senators <strong>Harry Reid<\/strong> (D) and <strong>Dean Heller<\/strong> (R) are trying to split the baby, preserving <strong>Internet<\/strong> poker but outlawing everything else. It&#8217;s <!--more-->too early to say whether such temporizing will succeed.<\/p>\n<p>A group of governors <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/hillicon-valley\/technology\/201781-democratic-governors-oppose-online-gambling-ban\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">is pushing back<\/a>, claiming that the proposed legislation would intrude <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/sandoval_t178.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4902\" alt=\"sandoval_t178\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/sandoval_t178.jpg\" width=\"178\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/sandoval_t178.jpg 178w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/sandoval_t178-124x150.jpg 124w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><\/a>upon states&#8217; rights. The also claim the bill is crudely written and would outlaw &#8220;traditional lottery draw games, including <strong>Mega Millions<\/strong> and <strong>Powerball<\/strong>.&#8221; Graham <em>has<\/em> left in a sweetheart provision that would exempt horse racing from his <em>fatwa.\u00a0<\/em><strong>Nevada<\/strong> Gov. <strong>Brian Sandoval<\/strong> (R, <em>left<\/em>) joined ranks with the Democratic governors, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/news\/new-bill-would-prohibit-internet-gambling-including-where-already-legal\" target=\"_blank\">voicing his opposition to the bill<\/a> and characterizing it as a form of federal gaming regulation. Graham responds that he&#8217;s doing the bidding of his governor and attorney general. <a href=\"http:\/\/lasvegassun.com\/news\/2014\/mar\/26\/no-poker-exception-new-legislation-congress-ban-on\/?_ga=1.157242107.1516280982.1395915261\" target=\"_blank\">He dared Reid and Heller to bring their poker exception on<\/a>, declaring, &#8220;If you want to have a poker exception, offer an amendment and see if it will pass.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Illinois<\/strong> is poised to deal another blow to its casino industry. A bill that passed out of a state senate committee would give truck stops special status, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2014\/mar\/26\/illinois-senate-panel-oks-truck-stop-gaming-bill\/\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">with 10 video gaming devices permitted per stop<\/a>, as opposed to the five-per-facility rule that governs the rest of the state&#8217;s slot routes. Opponents fear this will morph into a &#8220;mini-casino&#8221; industry, with the Land of Lincoln overrun by the likes of <strong>Dotty&#8217;s<\/strong> and <strong>P.T.&#8217;s Pubs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elsewhere<\/strong> in the Midwest, <strong>Tropicana Entertainment<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/business\/local\/tropicana-gets-closer-to-completing-lumiere-deal\/article_a353033b-9f08-5e41-a1d6-6dea6c002dd8.html\" target=\"_blank\">is just one step away<\/a> from having a foothold in the <strong>St. Louis<\/strong> market. The <strong>Missouri Gaming Commission<\/strong> approved <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s $260 million sale of the property.
