Las Vegas<\/strong> has its newest icon and the local media are duly wowed<\/a>. The Review-Journal<\/em> hauled out a stock of familiar superlatives — “stylish … trendy … hip.” The Las Vegas Sun<\/em> wasn’t much more restrained. Then there was passenger Gary Simonson<\/strong>, from Minnesota<\/strong>, who was moved to channel<\/a><\/p>\n

Alicia Bridges<\/strong>, saying, “I like the nightlife.” Because the Las Vegas High Roller<\/strong> opened with so little fanfare, lines were shorter for its maiden voyages than for the opening of Carlo’s Bakery<\/strong> at the Venetian<\/strong>, which drew a sea of humanity last night. (My wife and I took one look and fled.)<\/p>\n

In defense of our overworked local scribes, words aren’t made for describing the High Roller experience. Watch the attached videos and decide for yourself whether it’s spectacular or vertiginous, whether it’s a must-see attraction or something you’ll skip on your next Vegas visit. Either way, congratulations to Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> on getting the job done and creating a record-setting engineering feat<\/a>. (The prospect of people getting inebriated at 550 feet up in the air, with Caesars’ encouragement, fills one with trepidation and visions of the technicolor belch.)<\/p>\n

Heard on the Strip<\/strong>: C&W songstress Shania Twain<\/strong> is reportedly getting phased out at Caesars Palace<\/strong>.
