But it neglected to address <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Dottys.jpg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10892\" alt=\"Dottys.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Dottys.jpg-300x120.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Dottys.jpg-300x120.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Dottys.jpg-150x60.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Dottys.jpg.jpg 355w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>the elephant in the room: How much gambling is &#8220;incidental&#8221; to a publican&#8217;s business? Commissioner <strong>Tom Collins<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/lasvegassun.com\/news\/2014\/apr\/01\/commissioner-floats-simple-solution-rein-slot-parl\/\" target=\"_blank\">has a radical solution<\/a>: Cut the allotted number of gaming machines from 15 to five. That would appear to solve the problem but will raise hell with the likes of <strong>Golden Gaming<\/strong> (aka P.T.&#8217;s) and <strong>Dotty&#8217;s<\/strong>, even if their existing establishments are grandfathered into the legislation. They want to keep growing and Collins&#8217; proposal would surely kneecap them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attorneys for Boston<\/strong> argue that the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong> has no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12803\" alt=\"mohegan005\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005-300x168.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>standing to rule on whether Beantown is a host community or not. <a href=\"http:\/\/bostonherald.com\/business\/business_markets\/2014\/04\/gaming_panel_to_play_hand_on_host_status_for_boston\" target=\"_blank\">The commission plans to go ahead<\/a> and conduct hearings on the issue anyway. Judging by the verbiage coming out of <strong>Boston<\/strong>, Mayor <strong>Martin J. Walsh<\/strong> is laying the groundwork for a lawsuit, bringing the casino-selection process to a grinding halt. Meanwhile, <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong>\/<strong>Suffolk Downs<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/2014\/04\/01\/state-orders-mohegan-sun-carry-out-new-environmental-study-revere-casino-proposal\/6TougxZqACL4R9rZrrOCvM\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">has to redo its environmental impact study<\/a>, since the Mohegan casino portion of the project now sits squarely on a flood plane. <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> contends that this will delay the start of construction (if Suffolk Downs wins), while Mohegan Sun insists it&#8217;s on track for a 2014 groundbreaking.<\/p>\n<p>To the southeast, the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong> is willing to entertain an extension of the July 23 application deadline &#8212; but <!--more--><strong>Foxwoods Massachusetts<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southcoasttoday.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20140401\/NEWS\/404010343\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">doesn&#8217;t want to hear anything about it<\/a>. Foxwoods says it&#8217;s on the verge of a deal with <strong>Fall River<\/strong>, and if the current deadline stands, it can carry Fall River over the threshold before anybody else has a chance to get in. On the opposite side, <strong>New Bedford<\/strong> Mayor <strong>Jon Mitchell<\/strong> is claiming to have &#8220;various proposals&#8221; to assess, which is news in itself. City Councilors say <em>Mitchell<\/em> is the problem, cluttering up the isssue with\u00a0&#8220;his own personal feelings and reservations about an issue that was duly passed into law by the <strong>Massachusetts Legislature<\/strong>.&#8221; Not much has been heard from the <strong>Mashpee Wampanoags<\/strong> lately and, even with <strong>Neil Bluhm<\/strong> out there, this is Foxwoods&#8217; ballgame to lose.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/south_carolina_flag.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-8342\" alt=\"south_carolina_flag\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/south_carolina_flag-150x97.gif\" width=\"150\" height=\"97\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/south_carolina_flag-150x97.gif 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/south_carolina_flag-300x195.gif 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/south_carolina_flag.gif 648w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>South Carolina<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Supreme Court<\/strong> has ruled that the <strong>Catawba Indian Nation<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/sc-justices-no-casino-allowed-on-catawba-land\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">added two and two and got five<\/a> when it applied for video gambling on the basis that the state allows &#8220;cruises to nowhere.&#8221; For starters, shipboard gambling doesn&#8217;t start until the vessel are out of Palmetto State waters. Secondly, in a major settlement with Uncle Sam in 1993, the Catawba gave up any form not authorized elsewhere in the state except for a pair of bingo halls. The next move for the Catawba is to resume trying to get land in <strong>North Carolina<\/strong> taken into trust for a full-scale casino in the <strong>King&#8217;s Mountain<\/strong> area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goldman Sachs\u00a0<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/parent-stratosphere-arizona-charlie-s-narrows-quarterly-loss\" target=\"_blank\">continues to lose money<\/a> from its flutter into the Vegas casino industry. <strong>American Casino &amp; Entertainment Properties<\/strong> is heavily propped up by the Stratosphere, which represents 44% of total income.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When the Clark County Commission went out of its way to define &#8220;tavern gaming&#8221; in 2011, it went into all sorts of minutiae about kitchens and such.
