Not to belittle the project <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/default\/article\/Albany-casino-proposal-gets-first-public-comments-5384239.php\" target=\"_blank\">but the presence of Pinnacle gives E23 real heft<\/a>. Community organizer <strong>Marlon Anderson<\/strong> called it &#8220;a game changer for the city of Albany.&#8221; Pinnacle was selected from by developer<strong> David Flaum<\/strong> from among 10 supplicants for the project. Other than <strong>Genting Group<\/strong>, Pinnacle is the only heavyweight casino operator to commit to an upstate casino project and we submit that the Albany government not look this gift horse in the mouth.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Motor-City.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7816\" alt=\"Motor City\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Motor-City.jpg\" width=\"290\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Motor-City.jpg 290w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Motor-City-150x102.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/><\/a>Detroit<\/strong> players stayed home (or played in <strong>Ohio<\/strong>) last month, as Motown casino revenues slipped 7%. No surprise, <strong>Greektown Casino-Hotel<\/strong> had the worst of it, off 10%. <strong>MGM Grand Detroit<\/strong> slid 7% <a href=\"http:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/article\/20140408\/BIZ\/304080092\/0\/BIZ\/Detroit-casino-revenues-tumble-during-frigid-March\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">but remained comfortably at the head of the pack<\/a>. Grossing $43 million to <!--more-->MGM&#8217;s $51 million, <strong>MotorCity Casino<\/strong> had the smallest decrease, 6%. The bamkrput city of Detroit itself is on pace to book $10 million less in gaming taxes this year, news it would rather not be hearing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fifty grand a year<\/strong> in tax money spoke louder than words in <strong>Lake Zurich<\/strong>, Illinois. Its board of trustees <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/local\/suburbs\/lake_zurich\/ct-lake-zurich-video-gambling-ban-tl-20140408,0,4151159.story\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">voted to allow two-dozen slot routes in \u00a0the town<\/a>, with an aggregate of 120 machines. This overturns a longstanding ban on the devices. The slots must be sequestered from the rest of the establishment and can&#8217;t be advertised on the building. Lake Zurich could collect as much as $3,000 up front in licensing fees.<\/p>\n<p>Reassured by the lack of crime increases in other villages with slot routes, the Lake Zurich board of trustees was persuaded to reverse its previous stance on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Slot-reels.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12445\" alt=\"Slot reels\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Slot-reels-300x151.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Slot-reels-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Slot-reels-150x75.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Slot-reels.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>the issue, even though it polled poorly among residents. To those in opposition, Trustee<strong> Jim Beaudoi<\/strong>n responded, &#8220;<em>It&#8217;s not just about the revenue. There are 100 different ways we could try to produce revenue. For me, it&#8217;s that we exist in a free-market system. The municipality shouldn&#8217;t really dictate what residents should and shouldn&#8217;t do<\/em>.&#8221; So Lake Zurich joins the litany of communities nibbling at the ankles of the riverboat-casino industry by adding a few slots here, a few hundred there.
