After the <strong>Iowa Racing &amp; Gaming Commission<\/strong> voted 4-1 against <strong>Cedar Crossing Casino<\/strong>, Corbett made a speedy exit from the room and<a href=\"http:\/\/siouxcityjournal.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/iowa\/panel-rejects-cedar-rapids-casino-plan\/article_1038428e-004b-545b-9f59-b2aff64a950d.html\" target=\"_blank\"> was still stung several hours later<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cWe felt all along that they were encouraging us. Now we have a little bit of a feeling that we were misled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/roncorbett470.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13346\" alt=\"roncorbett470\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/roncorbett470-300x168.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/roncorbett470-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/roncorbett470-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/roncorbett470.jpg 470w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Corbett has a valid point to feel led on and perhaps falsely encouraged by the two-year application process. But the IRGC has the at least equally valid point that it has to be guided by what its market studies tell it &#8212; and the tale they told of Cedar Crossing was one of severe cannibalization. Heck, Cedar Crossing conceded as much by offering to share revenue with <strong>Riverside Casino &amp; Golf Resort<\/strong>, but the latter&#8217;s CEO, <strong>Dan Kehl<\/strong>, wasn&#8217;t having any of it. It was spinach and to hell with it.<\/p>\n<p>Kehl also \u00a0had some good advice for Cedar Crossing&#8217;s backers: <!--more-->\u201cThey would have been more prudent to wait for the [commission\u2019s] market studies to come out before launching on their endeavor. But they opted to go the other way.\u201d Cedar Crossing <em>did<\/em> do a marketing study &#8230; one which basically said what Cedar Crossing wanted to hear.<\/p>\n<p>As for dissident commissioner <strong>Dolores Mertz<\/strong>, who favors a free-market \u00a0approach, Chairman <strong>Jeff Lamberti<\/strong> &#8220;said Iowa\u2019s casino industry has never been a free-market affair, but instead has been a state-regulated industry with the &#8216;overarching goal&#8217;of creating a &#8216;stable and predictable gaming environment&#8217; that is &#8216;free of significant disruption.'&#8221; Count stability and predictability among yesterday&#8217;s winners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quote of the Day<\/strong>:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s the beginning of the beginning, and its hard to draw long-term conclusions.
