Ex-state inspector general <strong>Gregory Sullivan<\/strong> calls <em>l&#8217;affaire Lightbody<\/em> &#8220;a plaguing, dark problem for the commission &#8230; a serious concern.&#8221;\u00a0\u201cA group of people attempted to hide a disqualifying factor from you so that they could make a handsome profit,\u201d testified Frongillo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thrown on the defensive, commissioner <strong>Bruce Stebbins<\/strong> says &#8220;I\u00a0<span style=\"color: #262626;\">appreciate the city of Boston\u2019s concerns about the suitability of the current property owners.&#8221; Colleage <strong>Gayle Cameron<\/strong> concurs that she&#8217;s &#8220;concerned about the land deal, but I do look at that as a separate matter.&#8221; Still, given the lack of clear resolution, one feels the momentum slipping from Wynn&#8217;s grasp and toward <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong>, which appears likely to negotiate a surrounding-community agreement with Boston.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Suffolk Downs<\/strong> also figures in hearings held by the <strong>Supreme Judicial Court<\/strong>. Turns out that one jurist, <strong>Robert Cordy<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/2014\/05\/10\/supreme-judicial-court-justice-hearing-casino-case-worked-lobbyist-for-suffolk-downs\/ywQuHjRTQwAylFGmxbbu7J\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">represented the track<\/a> &#8230; roughly 20 years ago, when Suffolk Downs was under different ownership and was trying to join forces with the <strong>Wampanoag Tribe<\/strong> to obtain a racino. However, rather than ask for a recusal, Cordy&#8217;s detractors are content to grumble\u00a0that\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201ccasino money had infiltrated every branch of government.\u201d Anyway, being\u00a011,485 signatures short of qualifying for the November ballot, casino opponents have bigger fish to fry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>* In <strong>Indiana<\/strong>, competition from neighboring states has gotten the attention of the Lege. It wants to keep casino revenue high, the casinos want lower taxes and cities <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/indiana-lawmakers-may-study-declining-gambling-revenue\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">want the same level of revenue as before<\/a> &#8212; which seems a mite unrealistic as <strong>Ohio<\/strong>, <strong>Michigan<\/strong> and <strong>Illinois<\/strong> continue to nibble away at the Hoosier State.<\/p>\n<div>* A smackdown was administered to the <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong> for using coercive tactics to try and keep a casino employee in the fold. According to the <strong>National Labor Relations Board<\/strong> verdict, <strong>Paris-Las Vegas<\/strong> employee <strong>Nani Sugianto<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cdetermined that she could reap the benefits of the collective bargaining agreement without paying any union dues.\u201d To &#8216;persuade&#8217; her, the Culinary <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/judge-casino-worker-wrongly-pressured-by-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">told Sugianto her actions &#8220;would be bad for her family&#8221;<\/a> and could result in demotion. This version of events was denied by the Culinary but\u00a0administrative law judge <strong>Dickie Montemayor<\/strong> wasn&#8217;t buying their story.
