Seems that Full House can&#8217;t find banks who&#8217;ll underwrite the deal. <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s recent decision to close <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Tunica<\/strong> cannot have helped Full House salt away\u00a0the sale. Like everyone in the industry, Full House cited the &#8220;bad weather&#8221; excuse to explain away a 60% drop in cash flow during 1Q14. If Fitzgerald&#8217;s lets Full House CEO <strong>Andre Hilliou<\/strong> off the hook, the latter can concentrate on finishing an $18 million hotel for its Tunica-area property, <strong>Silver Slipper Casino<\/strong>. Considering that the Fitzgerald&#8217;s purchase <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/las-vegas-company-wont-buy-miss-casino\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">was made in March and terminated in May<\/a>, one wonders about how thoroughly Full House thought this through.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fortunately for the industry<\/strong>, Full House&#8217;s face-plant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/2014\/05\/14\/meadows-racetrack-and-casino-to-be-sold-for-465m.html?page=all\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">was overshadowed by a big purchase<\/a> in <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong>. Removing a major competitor from the game board, <!--more--><strong>Gaming &amp; Leisure Properties Inc<\/strong>. announced it will buy Pennsylvania&#8217;s other major racino, <strong>Meadows Racetrack &amp; Racino<\/strong> from <strong>Cannery Casino Resorts<\/strong> for $465 million. Since GLPI and <strong>Penn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Meadows.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13580\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Meadows-300x88.jpg\" alt=\"Meadows\" width=\"300\" height=\"88\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Meadows-300x88.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Meadows-150x44.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Meadows.jpg 414w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>National Gaming<\/strong> are still connected as REIT and casino manager at large, this structure enables GLPI to circumvent Pennsylvania&#8217;s one-and-one-third casino-ownership rules. &#8220;<span style=\"color: #444444;\">GLPI said it will be looking for a third-party company to operate the casino and buy the licenses and operating assets.&#8221; And who do you think that will be? For the moment, an entity called <strong>Mountainview Racing<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/2014\/05\/14\/new-meadows-owner-has-short-history-familiar.html?page=all\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">holds the gaming license<\/a>, which will be sold along with the operating assets while GLPI retains the physical plant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>GLPI wanted Meadows badly<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rttnews.com\/2321541\/gaming-and-leisure-properties-to-buy-meadows-racetrack-and-casino-for-465-mln.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">paying a premium 9X EBITDA to close the deal<\/a>. That speaks well to Cannery&#8217;s stewardship of the property. Whoever gets the gaming license inherits\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a03,317 slot machines, 61 table games, and 14 poker tables. GLPI&#8217;s share of the assets include\u00a011 casual and fine dining restaurants, bars and lounges, a 24-lane bowling alley, and a 5\/8-mile racetrack with a 500-seat grandstand. For <strong>Deutsche Bank<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Carlo Santarelli<\/strong>, the transaction was a &#8220;re-cementing of the belief that willing sellers exist and deals can be consummated,&#8221; he wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span style=\"color: #000000;\">We believe the most likely potential operator would be [Penn National Gaming],&#8221; &#8212; surprise, surprise &#8212; &#8220;though regulations will limit the amount of ownership [Penn]\u00a0could take in the licensed entity (capped at 1\/3rd). Thus, it is entirely possible the search widens to alleviate the state restrictions and allow for an easier transaction.&#8221; Think of it: GLPI, Penn and possibly a third operator. This could get very cozy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/danielgilbert.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1184\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/danielgilbert-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"danielgilbert\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Dapper Dan Gilbert<\/strong>&#8216;s decision to hedge his bets with casinos in both <strong>Ohio<\/strong> and <strong>Detroit<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlive.com\/business\/detroit\/index.ssf\/2014\/05\/detroit_casino_revenues_down_6.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">has come back to bite him<\/a>. All of Motown&#8217;s casinos saw revenue decline last month: 4% each at <strong>MotorCity<\/strong> and <strong>MGM Grand Detroit<\/strong>. However, by far the worst of it was reserved for Gilbert&#8217;s <strong>Greektown Casino<\/strong>, down 14% and finishing with distant third in revenues: $27 million &#8230; $20 million less than MGM. Thank God. The previous ones were &#8216;only&#8217; 10 years old but felt like they&#8217;d been made in the Paleozoic Era.
