That should be interesting. As tsarina of the <strong>Southern Nevada Water Authority<\/strong> for 11 years, Mulroy made many enemies with her take-no-prisoners style.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, it was Bernhard who replaced Sandoval when the latter stepped down from the NGC and ran for <strong>Nevada<\/strong> attorney general. One can&#8217;t blame Bernhard\u00a0for leaving.<!--more--> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/gaming-commission-shuffle-bernhard-resigning-alamo-new-chairman-mulroy-b\" target=\"_blank\">He&#8217;s still making the same 55 grand that was his salary back then<\/a>. He attributed his early departure to a desire to have a\u00a0successor who has sufficient time to coordinate with the <strong>Nevada Gaming Control Board<\/strong> in advance of the next Legislature.<\/p>\n<p>As <strong>Howard Stutz<\/strong> notes, Bernhard oversaw a great deal of history, chairing the NGC through two recessions, and a series of ever-bigger takeovers and LBOs. But the departing chairman\u00a0thinks Alamo is the man of the moment, telling the <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em>, &#8220;he\u2019s younger, he understands social media, and he was ready and willing to serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>* The prospects of casino gambling in <strong>Japan<\/strong> wax and wane with each <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Japan-flag.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4291\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Japan-flag-300x211.gif\" alt=\"Japan-flag\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Japan-flag-300x211.gif 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Japan-flag-150x105.gif 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Japan-flag.gif 497w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>passing day. <em>Forbes<\/em>&#8216; <strong>Muhammad Cohen<\/strong> opines that parliamentary debate is<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0&#8220;another small step in a long kabuki performance whose ending hasn\u2019t been written.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/muhammadcohen\/2014\/06\/18\/japan-takes-baby-step-toward-casinos\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">He points to the slower-than-expected progress of the enabling legislation<\/a> (<strong>Spectrum Asia<\/strong> CEO <strong>Paul Bromberg<\/strong>:\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re not talking about a bill to legalize casinos but a bill to study legalizing casinos\u201d). And if that initial bill makes it to the upper house, it will go into a committee chaired by a casino opponent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bromberg doesn&#8217;t think there will serious legislative action until 2015 &#8230; too late for megaresorts to open in time for the 2020 Olympics.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cUnlike Macao,&#8221; he adds, &#8220;Japan is a very large and diversified economy. Lots of people think, \u2018We don\u2019t need casinos.\u2019\u201d They also wonder why they need American companies to get a piece of the action when they have the competency themselves. Cohen glumly concludes that legalization will be &#8220;a long-running show.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Amaya Gaming Group<\/strong>&#8216;s planned purchase of <strong>PokerStars<\/strong> is already paying dividends. <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> officials <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/business\/263713271.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">are sitting down with the company<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Internet-casino.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12730\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Internet-casino-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"Internet casino\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Internet-casino-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Internet-casino-150x107.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Internet-casino.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>to discuss lifting PokerStars&#8217; two-year suspension. <strong>Division of Gaming Enforcement<\/strong> Director <strong>David Rebuck<\/strong> characterized himself as &#8220;encouraged&#8221; by Amaya&#8217;s actions, which would include the ouster of fugitive bad actor <strong>Isai Scheinberg<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cI think in the long run it will be a good story for New Jersey. I\u2019m optimistic that they know what the rules are, and I fully expect them to be very aggressive because they want to be here,\u201d said Rebuck.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s one school of belief which holds that Internet-gaming action has been week because the dominant brands\u00a0&#8212; PokerStars and <strong>Full Tilt Poker<\/strong> &#8212; have been barred from the U.S. market, leaving the action mostly to a group of startups. (Amaya provides the platform for one, <strong>Caesars Interactive<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n<p>Among the believers is <strong>Fitch Ratings<\/strong>, which wrote, \u201cThe return of the exiled poker giant would inhibit the online poker ambitions of big U.S.- based operators such as <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>, <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> and <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong>.\u201d Another would be Caesars Interactive partner 888 Holdings, <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/european-online-chief-let-rival-pokerstars-operate-in-u-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">which is lending its support<\/a> to giving <strong>PokerStars<\/strong> clemency.\u00a0\u201cThey are a formidable competitor,&#8221; said 888 CEO <strong>Brian Mattingley<\/strong>. &#8220;But they would make all of us work much harder and it would expand the market.
