A poll taken by the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Center for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12803\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"mohegan005\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mohegan005.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Policy Analysis<\/strong> at the <strong>University of Massachusetts Dartmout<\/strong>h <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbur.org\/2014\/06\/30\/umass-boston-casino-poll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">found voters split between 48% in favor of Mohegan Sun<\/a> vs. only 27% for Wynn. Casino expert <strong>Clyde Barrow<\/strong> attributed the outcome to Mohegan Sun&#8217;s standing as &#8220;known commodity in <strong>New England<\/strong> that is visited annually by hundreds of thousands of <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> residents.\u201d Of course they won&#8217;t go to the original Mohegan Sun if an offshoot springs up in <strong>Revere<\/strong>, but that&#8217;s a problem the <strong>Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority<\/strong> brought upon itself. But if the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong> rules in favor of Wynn, will voters sour on casinos per se?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The same poll found <strong>Boston<\/strong>-area voters opposing casino repeal 46% to 41%, but with a big, 13% pool of <!--more-->undecideds out there. Is having the casino you didn&#8217;t want better than no casino at all? This remains to be seen. (Repeal is much less popular among women than men, it seems.) Bay State legislators <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/massachusetts-lawmakers-ok-final-state-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">chose to shoot dice with the state budget<\/a>, banking on $73 million in very theoretical casino revenue (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbur.org\/2014\/06\/30\/state-budget-fiscal-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in a budget which overshoots revenue growth<\/a>). One feels like a Grinch for saying this while reading lines like, &#8220;Several Senate priorities were included in the spending plan including substance abuse prevention, education, local aid, mental health services, veterans, public safety and child welfare,&#8221; but it&#8217;s true.**<\/p>\n<p>(** &#8220;<span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the policy front, the budget would for the first time allow for direct shipments of up to 12 cases of wine a year from out-of-state vineyards to Massachusetts wine drinkers.&#8221;)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MGM-Springfield-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10449\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MGM-Springfield-3-300x218.jpg\" alt=\"MGM Springfield 3\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MGM-Springfield-3-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MGM-Springfield-3-150x109.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MGM-Springfield-3.jpg 665w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Meanwhile, <strong>Ron Chimelis<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/opinion\/index.ssf\/2014\/06\/springfield_must_hope_state_vo.html#incart_river\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">editorializes eloquently<\/a> on behalf of a <strong>Springfield<\/strong> casino. As he notes, &#8220;<span style=\"color: #363636;\">Springfield&#8217;s future is largely in the hands of people who live east of <strong>Worcester<\/strong>. That is an unsettling thought.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturated yet?<\/strong> According to <strong>Moody&#8217;s Investor Service<\/strong>, most regional U.S. casino markets are looking at a decline of as much as 5% over the next year and a half and up to -7.5% in cash flow. This reverses a cautiously optimistic Moody&#8217;s report from earlier.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #292727;\"><strong>Colorado<\/strong>, <strong>Delaware<\/strong>, <strong>New Jersey<\/strong>, <strong>Illinois<\/strong>, <strong>Kansas<\/strong>, <strong>Indiana<\/strong>, <strong>Iowa<\/strong>, <strong>Michigan<\/strong>, <strong>Louisiana<\/strong>, <strong>New York<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #292727;\">, <strong>Missouri<\/strong> and <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong> were among the states scrutinized. Indiana and <strong>Connecticut<\/strong> got hammered particularly badly. <strong>Maryland<\/strong> and <strong>Ohio<\/strong> defied the downward trend, in large part because they have so much new gambling product coming online (racinos in Ohio, table games in Maryland). One other bright spot?
