{"id":13997,"date":"2014-07-02T12:45:54","date_gmt":"2014-07-02T20:45:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/?p=13997"},"modified":"2019-04-13T13:04:12","modified_gmt":"2019-04-13T21:04:12","slug":"quad-out-linq-in-siegel-in-goldman-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/quad-out-linq-in-siegel-in-goldman-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Quad out, Linq in; Siegel in, Goldman out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It takes a big man to admit a mistake and <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> CEO <strong>Gary Loveman<\/strong> has tacitly acknowledged that &#8220;<strong>The Quad<\/strong>&#8221; was a mistaque. It&#8217;s\u00a0on the way out, to be replaced with a re-re-branding of <strong>Imperial Palace<\/strong> as <strong>Linq Hotel &amp; Casino<\/strong>. (Loveman sure does love those Q&#8217;s.) Compared to a somewhat tentative revamping of the IP\/Quad to date, Caesars will now put $223 million into making it a state-of-the-property. That&#8217;s almost 100 grand per hotel room, plus &#8220;new retail and spa amenities and a new pool deck and a signature lobby bar.&#8221; With six table games, Caesars envisions the latter to be the new go-to spot on property.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/The-LINQ-Hotel-Casino_Elev-Lobby.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-13998\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/The-LINQ-Hotel-Casino_Elev-Lobby-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"The-LINQ-Hotel-&amp;-Casino_Elev-Lobby\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/The-LINQ-Hotel-Casino_Elev-Lobby-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/The-LINQ-Hotel-Casino_Elev-Lobby-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/The-LINQ-Hotel-Casino_Elev-Lobby.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The success of the <strong>Linq<\/strong> mall, with its 34 shops, restaurants and watering holes makes the Quad look that much more (less?) underwhelming. Somebody had to step up to the plate and Caesars did. New bells and whistles will include making the hotel a giant Wi-fi hotspot and providing automated check-in (of course the computer won&#8217;t upgrade your room if you slip it an extra twenty).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve never stayed there myself &#8220;[b]ut online reviewers <!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/2-hotels-get-overhauls-in-sign-of-sin-city-upswing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">were still largely critical<\/a> of the 2,300-room hotel, calling it outdated and dirty.&#8221; At age 55, the old gal&#8217;s gotta be way overdue for a complete makeover, not to mention whatever maintenance Caesars has been deferring. If they&#8217;re willing to let the exterior appearance of <strong>Paris-Las Vegas<\/strong> and <strong>The Rio<\/strong> go as much as they have, \u00a0I&#8217;d hate to think what they&#8217;re skimping on the interiors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/David-Siegel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-13971\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/David-Siegel.jpg\" alt=\"David Siegel\" width=\"178\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/David-Siegel.jpg 178w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/David-Siegel-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><\/a>* Former<strong> Southern California Edison<\/strong> lineman <strong>David Siegel<\/strong> lent a hand to the removal of the LVH from the much-abused former <strong>Las Vegas\u00a0Hilton<\/strong>. He&#8217;s a brave man: I wouldn&#8217;t go up there to help remove a 30-foot-tall &#8220;L.&#8221; The <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/cdcgamingreports.com\/hands-on-new-hotel-chief-removes-l-from-lvh-marquee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">was there for the dog-and-pony show<\/a> but skipped a subsequent roundtable with the personable, low-key <strong>Westgate Resorts<\/strong> CEO, which you&#8217;ll be able to read about in a forthcoming <em>Question of the Day<\/em>. However, Siegel did tell the <em>R-J<\/em> that he planned to retain the entire <strong>Westgate Las Vegas<\/strong> staff &#8212; reason enough to like him already.<\/p>\n<p>Siegel&#8217;s business model is <strong>Disney World<\/strong>: &#8220;They have clean-cut, friendly employees. That\u2019s what we\u2019re all about. We\u2019re a family-run resort company. We care about people. They\u2019re not numbers. Every guest is going to be treated like a high roller.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Westgate-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13967\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Westgate-2.jpg\" alt=\"Westgate 2\" width=\"178\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Westgate-2.jpg 178w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Westgate-2-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><\/a>Incidentally, only a small fraction (200) of rooms will sold as timeshares, at least for starters. Siegel will continue to operate Westgate as a hotel and is keeping <strong>Navegante Group<\/strong> in place as a casino manager. Siegel believes the hotel makes enough in lease payments from Navegante that he doesn&#8217;t need a direct pipeline of casino cash. He also had harsh words for <strong>Colony Capital<\/strong>: &#8220;when the new company took it over, it didn\u2019t want to invest in it.\u201d Siegel made it clear that he&#8217;d put big bucks into Westgate Las Vegas, saying it would &#8220;dwarf&#8221; the (undisclosed) purchase price which <strong>Goldman Sachs<\/strong> was paid to part with its red-headed stepchild.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aria<\/strong> is 100 grand lighter in the wallet as a penalty for employees who barred <strong>Nevada Gaming Control Board<\/strong> agents <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/aria-agrees-fine-blocking-agents-high-stakes-table\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">from watching a roulette game<\/a>.
