{"id":14369,"date":"2014-08-19T14:32:29","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T22:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/?p=14369"},"modified":"2014-08-19T14:32:29","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T22:32:29","slug":"mgm-garden-state-peace-talks-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/mgm-garden-state-peace-talks-continue\/","title":{"rendered":"MGM, Garden State peace talks continue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A situation in which then-<strong>MGM Mirage<\/strong> and shareholder <strong>Kirk Kerkorian<\/strong> let sentiment trump common sense has long been causing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/lion.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4594\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/lion.jpg\" alt=\"lion\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/lion.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/lion-150x99.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/><\/a>them trouble in <strong>New Jersey<\/strong>. But no longer. The <strong>Division of Gaming Enforcement<\/strong> has stipulated to an agreement whereby MGM will pay $150,000 (plus $75,000 from Kerkorian&#8217;s Tracinda Corp.) &#8221;\u00a0in recognition of the seriousness of the failures to address [<strong>Terry<\/strong>] <strong>Christensen<\/strong>\u2019s ongoing and continued involvement in their affairs following first his indictment and then his conviction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Christensen, an attorney and (more to the point) four-decade Kerkorian crony got MGM in hot water. In 2002, while on the MGM board of directors, Christensen hired <!--more-->private spook <strong>Anthony Pellicano<\/strong> to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2008\/11\/terry-christensen-gets-3-year-sentence-judge-calls-house-detention-request-ludicrous-7579\/\" target=\"_blank\">illegally tap the phone<\/a> of Kerkorian&#8217;s ex-wife, <strong>Lisa Bonder<\/strong>. When this eventually came to life, Christensen was indicted and stepped down from the MGM board &#8212; yet remained a trusted confidante. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/la-me-pellicanolawayer16feb16-story.html\" target=\"_blank\">Even after becoming a convicted felon<\/a>, Christensen&#8217;s advice was being sought by MGM on sensitive matters, including its strained relationship with <strong>Dubai World<\/strong>. If anybody found this a less-than-good idea, their counsel clearly fell upon deaf ears.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Pansy-Ho-28.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2813\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Pansy-Ho-28.jpg\" alt=\"Pansy Ho 28\" width=\"250\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Pansy-Ho-28.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Pansy-Ho-28-150x117.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>MGM&#8217;s <em>mea culpa<\/em> in the Christensen imbroglio<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/mgm-resorts-takes-steps-regain-nj-gaming-license\" target=\"_blank\"> is a preamble to the main event<\/a>: an attempt to regain the license it surrendered rather than sever business ties with <strong>Pansy Ho<\/strong>. There&#8217;s a big bag of money being held in trust for MGM, should it ever regain its 50% control of <strong>Borgata<\/strong>. Repenting of <em>l&#8217;affaire Christensen<\/em> was a necessary act of penance in order to get closer to that pot of gold. MGM has been punished long enough for its dealings with the Ho family.
