In their fanzine, <em>Palestine<\/em>, they urge their followers to build car bombs and target Sin City. Nightclubs and casino floors are the high-impact\u00a0targets of opportunity. (Real geniuses, these terrorist folk.) Both the <strong>Southern Nevada Counter-Terrorism Unit<\/strong>&#8216;s Lt. <strong>Nichole Splinter<\/strong> and the <strong>Counterterrorism Training School<\/strong>&#8216;s\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Doron Benbenisty<\/strong> downplay the Al-Qaeda rhetoric somewhat, with Splinter saying the threat\u00a0&#8220;does not, however, interpret there is any planning or operational phases that have been identified.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since the citation of Las Vegas as a target came in an article about car bombs (poor weapons against nightclubs, casino floors and restaurants), law enforcement is taking with a grain of salt. Reports <strong>KVVU-TV<\/strong>, &#8220;Splinter said it&#8217;s not uncommon for publications like this to suggest the names of big cities to target.&#8221; Still, it behooves all of us to be vigilant, especially in a city as thickly populated as ours.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>* It&#8217;s not Game Over for <strong>MGM Springfield<\/strong> even if <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> votes to repeal the state&#8217;s casino laws. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2014\/08\/state_rep_joseph_wagner_says_a.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">That&#8217;s the opinion<\/a> of Republican gubernatorial candidate <strong>Charlie Baker<\/strong> and of state Rep. <strong>Joseph F. Wagner<\/strong> (D), who helped author the enabling legislation. According to Wagner,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #363636;\">&#8220;Local control is a central tenet of the gaming law &#8230;\u00a0We would have to assess what was the percentage of the vote on either side, how did it break out across regions.&#8221; In other words, a &#8220;no&#8221; vote cast in <strong>Milford<\/strong> ought to carry less weight than a &#8220;yes&#8221; in <strong>Springfield<\/strong>. The casino law didn&#8217;t envision anyone besides the affected community having veto power over a casino, as is now the case with November&#8217;s referendum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #363636;\">&#8220;I think the debate will take shape around moral grounds,&#8221; added Wagner, who thinks the state should blow off a negative November vote and build the casinos, since they are powerful vehicles of economic development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Wu.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14402\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Wu.jpg\" alt=\"Wu\" width=\"200\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Wu.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Wu-119x150.jpg 119w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Congratulations to <strong>Peter P. Wu&#8217;s 13-year tenure in gaming reads like a litany of the blessed (<strong>Baha Mar<\/strong>, in the <strong>Bahamas<\/strong>) and the damned (<strong>Randy Black<\/strong>&#8216;s ill-fated <strong>Black Gaming<\/strong>). In addition to working for <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>, Wu is also a veteran of the <strong>Macao<\/strong> market where he has held a variety of positions for <strong>Sands China<\/strong>, up to and including vice president of operations.
