So where do deadbeat dads like to play?\u00a0<em>Boomtown Belle<\/em> is the winner, collecting $191,006 to date and also boasting the single largest monthly haul. In fact, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/columns-blogs\/inside-gaming\/titus-bill-would-repeal-handle-tax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she&#8217;s authored a bill<\/a> to eliminate the federal handle tax on sports wagers. Imposed only in <strong>Nevada<\/strong> and <strong>Delaware<\/strong>, the tax constitutes a tiny fraction of a point and, when asked where the money went, the <strong>Internal Revenue Service<\/strong> couldn&#8217;t account for it. As Titus puts it,\u00a0\u201cThis seems like a penalty being paid by <strong>Nevada<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cantor Gaming<\/strong> CEO <strong>Lee Amaitis<\/strong>, who set the process in motion when he asked Titus&#8217; office for an accounting of the money, is supportive. He&#8217;d pay a <!--more-->Nevada handle tax instead (although he&#8217;d really like to put his handle tax money toward infrastructural improvements). Even archrival <strong>William Hill<\/strong> is onboard with the legislation. It seems like plain old common sense, even if <strong>Nevada vs. Congress<\/strong> is a <strong>David-and-Goliath<\/strong> proposition.<\/p>\n<p>* Hundreds of political refugees, from <strong>Bosnia<\/strong> to<strong> Bhutan<\/strong> (with <strong>Iraq<\/strong> and <strong>Eritrea<\/strong> thrown in), are getting a chance to experience <strong>America<\/strong>&#8216;s bounty, courtesy of <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong> casinos. <strong>Rivers Casino<\/strong>&#8216;s refugee staff is double the percentage that prevails elsewhere in <strong>Allegheny County<\/strong>. Local churches and synagogues are helping funnel needy people from exile to employee, <a href=\"http:\/\/triblive.com\/news\/editorspicks\/6540518-74\/casino-immigrants-rivers#axzz3BX39BwDU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">with some landing jobs that pay $28\/hour<\/a>. As <strong>Presque Isle Downs<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Paul Jericho<\/strong> put it,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cOnce they learn the system, they&#8217;re given a chance to perform equally with all the other dealers. It&#8217;s a meritocracy, and it gives them the chance to live the American dream.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The biggest learning curve \u00a0has been adjusting not only to Pennsylvania vernacular but the rough language gamblers are wont to use.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cPeople make jokes here that are different from what someone would say in Nepal,\u201d says dealer <strong>Pashtu Pati<\/strong>. A Rivers pit boss, <strong>Tanka Ghimirey<\/strong> confirms what Pati says but advocates casino work as the path of opportunity:\u00a0\u201cPeople should think about working here. They have great benefits, and the upper management reaches out to us. They want us to succeed in America, and we want to live the American dream. We&#8217;re a good bet.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forty percent of Jericho&#8217;s dealers are refugees.\u00a0\u201cIf you&#8217;re a no-show, you&#8217;re fired,\u201d he says of them. \u201cBut when you have the work ethic that these men and women have, you don&#8217;t have to worry about that.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>* <strong>GardaWorld<\/strong> is $21,000 poorer now it will have to reimburse <strong>Revel<\/strong> for a lost bag of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/breaking\/no-wrongdoing-found-in-revel-money-lost-when-left-on\/article_204cab70-2ca6-11e4-8e97-001a4bcf887a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cash it carelessly left atop an armored car<\/a>. No wrongdoing was found in the incident, which saw a GardaWorld vehicle tooling around <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> with a clear, plastic bag of Revel megabucks up there for anyone to take.
