Even a 5% \u00a0increase in spending couldn&#8217;t offset an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Ameristar-KC-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5348\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Ameristar-KC-2.jpg\" alt=\"Ameristar KC-2\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Ameristar-KC-2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Ameristar-KC-2-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>8% decline in foot traffic. A bright spot was that, for the quarter, <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong> beat <strong>J.P. Morgan<\/strong> analyst <strong>Joseph Greff<\/strong>&#8216;s projections. However, <strong>St. Louis<\/strong> and <strong>Kansas City<\/strong> casinos came up short where September alone is concerned. For instance, <strong>Argosy Riverside<\/strong> was expected to come in at -2% but instead registered a 7% decline from 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Bright spots included <strong>Harrah&#8217;s North Kansas City<\/strong> (up 1%), and both <strong>Isle of Capri Casinos<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Lady Luck<\/strong> (3%) and <strong>Isle of Capri Cape Girardeau<\/strong> (3%). Otherwise, it was mostly adversity. Pinnacle&#8217;s <strong>Ameristar St. Charles<\/strong> came in flat, while <!--more--><strong>River City<\/strong> was down 3% and <strong>Ameristar Kansas City<\/strong> was down 7%. The biggest disappointment had to be <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Hollywood Casino St. Louis<\/strong>, off 10.5% and in serious danger of slipping to third place in the market. <strong>Tropicana Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Lumiere Place<\/strong>, a minor contributor, suffered a 4% stumble.<\/p>\n<p>Penn fared better in Kansas City, losing only 6% of business, while <strong>Isle of Capri Kansas City<\/strong> suffered a 2% slippage, though its revenue base is by far the smallest in the market. It&#8217;s always frustrating to compile these numbers without the revenue data from Penn&#8217;s <strong>Kansas Speedway<\/strong> casino, over the border. It&#8217;s difficult to tell whether Kansas City customers are being lured in droves to the speedway or are simply suffering economic malaise.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/boston\/index.ssf\/2014\/10\/gaming_commission_brushes_off.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">has been exonerated<\/a> of any culpability\u00a0in a dodgy transaction involving the land on which it will build its <strong>Everett<\/strong>, <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>, casino-resort. The <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong> undertook to look into last week&#8217;s indictment of three Boston <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10702\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett-300x131.jpg\" alt=\"Wynn Everett\" width=\"300\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett-300x131.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett-150x65.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Wynn-Everett.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>businessmen, one of them a convicted felon, for allegedly committing wire fraud and sundry other crimes. Said Acting Chairman <strong>James McHugh<\/strong>, &#8220;The indictments reflect that the Wynn applicant had no role in the wrongdoing by the owners of the land and had no knowledge of wrongdoing before the investigation was completed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Suffolk Downs<\/strong>, never one to miss an opportunity, is trying to use the indictments as an excuse to strip Wynn of its casino license. Getting a bit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wynn_BG1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4268\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wynn_BG1.jpg\" alt=\"Wynn_BG1\" width=\"180\" height=\"130\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wynn_BG1.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wynn_BG1-150x108.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a>ahead of itself, Suffolk Downs asserted that it had &#8220;grave doubts&#8221; about Wynn&#8217;s ability to close the land deal in the two months remaining. That&#8217;s mighty big of them. The MGC will humor Suffolk Downs&#8217; concerns and is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/boston\/index.ssf\/2014\/10\/suffolk_downs_asks_massachuset.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">currently mulling a 22-page missive<\/a>\u00a0from the track which, among things, accused,\u00a0&#8220;Recent developments have combined with existing circumstances to demonstrate that Wynn will not be able to develop its proposed casino while abiding by the Gaming Act and the commission&#8217;s standard and directives adopted in its implementation of the statute.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* Japanese Prime Minister <strong>Shinzo Abe<\/strong> can breathe a sigh of relief.
