There&#8217;s even a &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.gov\/oag\/ge\/2014news\/SkillBasedgamesOct2014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey First<\/a>&#8221; provision to give the state first dibs on the games.\u00a0<strong>David Rebuck<\/strong>, director of the <strong>Division of Gaming Enforcement<\/strong>, even pleaded,\u00a0 \u201cGiven the success of our New Jersey First program over the past three\u00a0years, we have the fastest time to market for electronic gaming equipment anywhere in the country\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0Bring your innovative skill-based games to <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> and we will work with you to get them approved quickly.\u00a0The approach has at least two things going for it: a &#8220;pre-sold&#8221; audience that plays the games online and market-tested product, not to mention appeal to millennials &#8212; a demographic <!--more-->that finds traditional slots\u00a0too stodgy for their tastes. But if bringing skill into the casino-game equation is what it takes to reverse New Jersey&#8217;s fortunes, it seems <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uspoker.com\/blog\/new-jersey-accept-applications-skill-based-casino-gaming\/9049\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">the industry is ready to make that leap<\/a>. (But what about card-counting?)<\/p>\n<p>The skill-based games <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2014-10-14\/new-jersey-eyes-candy-crush-like-games-to-boost-casinos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">could also be added to the suite of <strong>Internet<\/strong>-gambling offerings<\/a>, giving that market a much-needed shot in the arm. However this works out, New Jersey is to be applauded for thinking outside the (slot) box.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>* Having been tweaked more to Gov. <strong>Chris Christie<\/strong>&#8216;s liking (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/news\/nj-state-news\/n-j-senate-oks-sports-betting-bill-assembly-expected-to-follow-1.1108803\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">although his approval is not certain<\/a>), a bill to permit unregulated sports wagering in New Jersey <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/ap\/new_jersey\/new-jersey-senate-approves-sports-betting-bill\/article_56c27390-412c-56ef-9125-5c2d7ff9e7fb.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">has been voted out of the state senate<\/a>. Instead,\u00a0<strong>The Independent Sports Wagering Association<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9017\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/GovChristie.380-210x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/GovChristie.380-210x300.jpg 210w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/GovChristie.380-105x150.jpg 105w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/GovChristie.380.jpg 266w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/>plans to self-regulate under its own strictures \u201cto promote a safe, secure, and reliable sports wagering environment\u201d TISWA promises to\u00a0\u201cmodel itself on other highly successful and effective private self-regulatory organizations that have long existed in the financial sector, real estate industry, and in the medical and legal professions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once the bill hits Christie&#8217;s desk, he will have six weeks to make up his mind whether to sign it or not. He&#8217;s caught between that deadline and one this week to ask\u00a0U.S. District Court Judge <strong>Michael Shipp<\/strong> to enjoin his decision to strike down New Jersey&#8217;s existing sports-betting law. If Christie goes ahead, it sets up a heavyweight match between the Garden State, the <strong>NCAA<\/strong> and four major-leagues sports. It&#8217;s a suicide mission and I&#8217;d be surprised if Christie pursues it.<\/p>\n<p>* Anyone who<a href=\"http:\/\/qz.com\/280790\/a-casino-that-has-no-house-aims-to-change-gambling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\"> invents a game with no house edge<\/a> is bound to be nominated for sainthood.
