The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rick_Scott1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12910\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rick_Scott1-230x300.jpeg\" alt=\"Rick_Scott1\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rick_Scott1-230x300.jpeg 230w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rick_Scott1-115x150.jpeg 115w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rick_Scott1.jpeg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/a>$1 billion\/five-year deal currently before the two parties would reward that tribal largesse with &#8220;exclusive rights to blackjack and other table games.&#8221; That doesn&#8217;t make it inevitable\u00a0that resort casinos are toast but it takes away a very great deal of economic incentive. Time to dust off that argument that you can make multi-billion-dollar properties pencil out on 37% gaming revenue. Companies like <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong>, which kept their options open, will probably come out of this looking better than <strong>Genting Group<\/strong>, whose <strong>Miami<\/strong> waterfront acquisition looks more and more rash in retrospect.<\/p>\n<p>The Seminoles aren&#8217;t the only ones wanting something from Scott. Parimutuels would like table games (unlikely) and a reduction in their stiff 35% tax rate. <strong>Hard Rock International<\/strong>, meanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southflorida.com\/gambling\/south-florida-gambling-blog\/fl-miami-gaming-congress-111114-20141111,0,2635752.story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">seems to be gearing up for something big<\/a> at <strong>Seminole Paradise<\/strong>, where it&#8217;s torn down three restaurants to make room for a project that management is still keeping under wraps.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Churchill Downs<\/strong> continues to diversify. Already it has added &#8220;instant racing&#8221; to some of its tracks. Now <!--more-->it is venturing into the mobile-gaming sphere with an $885 million buyout of <strong>Big Fish Games<\/strong>, maker of social casino <strong>Big Fish Casino<\/strong> and slot-like <strong>Gummy Drop<\/strong>. Churchill Downs already offers parimutuel wagering over the <strong>Internet<\/strong> via <strong>TwinSpires.com<\/strong>. Thanks in part to &#8220;freememium&#8221; play, in which online punters pay to accelerate their gaming, Big Fish booked $266 million in revenue last year. The deal is structured to pay $15 million in Churchill Downs stock, $485 million in cash and $350 million contingent on Big Fish hitting certain 2015 benchmarks. Big Fish CEO <strong>Paul Thelen<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/11\/13\/business\/churchill-downs-to-buy-big-fish-games-for-up-to-dollar885-million.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">will also collect a $50 million bonus<\/a> &#8212; not a bad payday.<\/p>\n<p>* Anybody remember <strong>Archie Karas<\/strong>? The man once best known for a $40 million winning streak is now a confessed casino cheat. In return for copping to one count of felony burglarly, Karas got three years&#8217; probation. The conviction can be reduced to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Karas.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11636\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Karas.jpg\" alt=\"Karas\" width=\"138\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Karas.jpg 138w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Karas-131x150.jpg 131w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 138px) 100vw, 138px\" \/><\/a>misdemeanor if Karas (real name: <strong>Anarygyros Karabourniotis<\/strong>) fulfills certain conditions, including repayment of $6,860 to <strong>Barona Casino<\/strong>. Noted for its super-high-tech surveillance apparatus, Barona caught Karas on camera, marking cards. It&#8217;s hardly the first time Karas has been nabbed tipping the odds in his favor. In <strong>Nevada<\/strong> he has four arrests and a misdemeanor conviction on his rap sheet, including accusations of &#8220;marking cards, secretly exchanging cards with a partner or pressing bets, that is, increasing a wager after he already knew the outcome.&#8221; Once the paperwork has been processed, Karas gets to leave <strong>California<\/strong> and becomes Nevada&#8217;s problem once more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now that he&#8217;s assured of four more years, Florida Gov.
