{"id":15090,"date":"2014-11-24T15:59:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-24T23:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/?p=15090"},"modified":"2021-12-26T06:52:57","modified_gmt":"2021-12-26T14:52:57","slug":"paid-to-not-play-more-trouble-for-trump-caesars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/paid-to-not-play-more-trouble-for-trump-caesars\/","title":{"rendered":"Paid to not play?; More trouble for Trump, Caesars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although the <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong> came down against <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>&#8216; proposed &#8220;managed play&#8221; system of regulating losses, casino companies are saying, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Chips-and-cards.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Chips-and-cards-300x166.jpg\" alt=\"Chips and cards\" width=\"300\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Chips-and-cards-300x166.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Chips-and-cards-150x83.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Chips-and-cards.jpg 650w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/2014\/11\/20\/compromise-seen-helping-limit-losses-casinos\/o3O0IxWNd1XjGDnf6X7ZgL\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Not so fast<\/a>.&#8221; <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong>, <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> and <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> are all in favor of the idea of allowing players to cap their losses in advance. However, they are opposed to rewarding it with future free-play incentives, fearing that players will set exaggeratedly high limits they have no intention of hitting, qualifying them for free play. Said Wynn&#8217;s <strong>Robert DeSalvio<\/strong>,\u00a0\u201cIf someone has a problem the worst thing is to give him incentives to come back.\u201d He wasn&#8217;t opposed, however, to programming the limits into loyalty cards. Penn and MGM representatives <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/las-vegas-casinos-resist-bay-state-gambling-limits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had their own reservations about the program&#8217;s feasibility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The industry representatives seemed more concerned, overall, about players gaming the system to get free goodies than whether or not <!--more-->the limits were a good thing in themselves. They seem to have conceded the latter argument, although DeSalvio made the rather weak argument that making the signup part of the loyalty-card enrollment would drive players out of state. If not then, when? And if so, wouldn&#8217;t the &#8220;managed play&#8221; concept send them fleeing anyway?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/markets\/2014\/11\/20\/mgm-resorts-and-wynn-announce-separate-plans-to-take-on-some-1-billion-in-debt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">In a related development<\/a>, Wynn took out $1.25 billion in debt on its <strong>Boston<\/strong> project, while MGM issued $1.15 billion in debt, to be split between <strong>MGM Springfield<\/strong> and its <strong>National Harbor<\/strong> casino.<\/p>\n<p>* According to Judge <strong>Kevin Gross<\/strong>, if <strong>Trump Entertainment Resorts<\/strong> doesn&#8217;t get its act together and come up with a bankruptcy-exit strategy, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/articles\/judge-threatens-to-kick-trump-entertainment-out-of-chapter-11-1416495746\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">things could get dire<\/a> &#8212; if that were possible. TER could get kicked out of Chapter 11 and into Chapter 7 liquidation, a move that would run a cart and horses through <strong>Carl Icahn<\/strong>&#8216;s elaborate (and taxpayer-contingent) takeover plan. Judge Gross told all parties involved,\u00a0\u201cThere is urgency and an endpoint to their finding common ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>* Elsewhere in town, <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/caesars-calls-latest-default-notice-meritless\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was hit by a default notice<\/a> from <strong>UMB Bank<\/strong>. The asserted default is believed to have been provoked by Caesars&#8217; sequestration of prime assets in subsidiary <strong>Caesars Growth Partners<\/strong>.
