{"id":15346,"date":"2015-01-19T11:57:07","date_gmt":"2015-01-19T19:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/?p=15346"},"modified":"2021-12-17T08:25:59","modified_gmt":"2021-12-17T16:25:59","slug":"caesars-bankruptcy-stymied-big-total-rewards-payday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/caesars-bankruptcy-stymied-big-total-rewards-payday\/","title":{"rendered":"Caesars bankruptcy stymied; Big Total Rewards payday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just when it looked like <strong>Gary Loveman<\/strong> &amp; Co. <a href=\"http:\/\/dealbook.nytimes.com\/2015\/01\/15\/caesars-unit-files-for-chapter-11-bankruptcy-protection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">were going to get away with murder<\/a> in the <strong>Caesars Entertainment Operating Co<\/strong>. bankruptcy,\u00a0U.S. District Judge <strong>Shira <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14803\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1.png\" alt=\"caesarscasino_1\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1.png 240w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a>Scheindlin<\/strong> said, in essence, &#8216;Not so fast.&#8217; Judge Scheindlin found the movement of assets and stripping of guarantees from creditors to be in violation of the <strong>Trust Indenture Act of 1939<\/strong>. The guarantee removal is\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2015-01-19\/caesars-bankruptcy-reorganization-dealt-setback-by-federal-judge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">an impermissible out-of-court restructuring<\/a>,\u201d she ruled, precisely what the act &#8220;is designed to prevent.&#8221; Caesars endgame was to but CEOC\u00a0\u201cinto bankruptcy while protecting <strong>Apollo Management LP<\/strong> and <strong>TPG Inc<\/strong>. from CEOC\u2019s creditors.\u201d She added that the companies&#8217; bobs and fakes were &#8220;an impairment of the right to sue for payment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bankruptcy may be a headache for Caesars management but it&#8217;s a happy day for <strong>Total Rewards<\/strong> members. In an e-mail blast <!--more-->to card holders, the company reassured recipients that it was business as usual and then some. Caesars wrote, &#8220;<em>here\u2019s the really exciting news! We would like to take this opportunity to give you MORE!\u00a0Through <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_465601769\"><span class=\"aQJ\">March 31st, 2015<\/span><\/span>, we are giving you a <b>50% bonus<\/b> on the first 50,000 Tier Credits you earn! So, you could walk away with up to <b>25,000 EXTRA Tier Credits<\/b> to count towards your Tier Status, and we even started counting on January 1st<\/em>.*&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In other words, we&#8217;re not really on the ropes, so come and play extra-large, on us.<\/p>\n<p>* Close to home, the poker room at The Linq <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uspoker.com\/blog\/linq-closes-poker-room\/9418\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">went bust<\/a>. A tweet thanked players for &#8220;years [sic] of patronage and support.&#8221; This continues the diminution poker at <strong>Flamingo Road<\/strong> and the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong>. When <strong>Bill&#8217;s Gamblin&#8217; Hall<\/strong> was remade into <strong>The Cromwell<\/strong>, poker was discarded, as was the case when <strong>O&#8217;Shea&#8217;s<\/strong> was reinvented as a mini-casino inside The Linq. Also, the house rake at <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Las Vegas<\/strong> has been cut by 20%. The demise of poker at The Linq makes it the twelfth room to go dark in Vegas since September 2012.<\/p>\n<p>* With Chinese tourism soaring (up 41% last year), the <strong>South Korea<\/strong> government has decided it wants, even needs more casinos. It has announced plans to select proposals for two additional, billion-dollar proposals after midsummer. Gambling isn&#8217;t the only thing driving the Korean economy: Retail sales were up 32% last year as well.<\/p>\n<p>* What happens in Vegas goes to <strong>Broadway<\/strong>. At least that&#8217;s the case for <em>Honeymoon in Vegas<\/em>, which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/01\/16\/theater\/honeymoon-in-vegas-with-tony-danza-opens-on-broadway.html?emc=edit_th_20150116&amp;nl=todaysheadlines&amp;nlid=15322375&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">reimagines the cinematic movie caper as a big-scale B&#8217;way musical<\/a>, still complete with Flying Elvises. <strong>Tony Danza<\/strong>, who gave much needed heart\u00a0to the Vegas production of <em>The Producers<\/em>, inherits the <strong>James Caan<\/strong> role here and wins accolades from <em>New York Times<\/em> critic <strong>Ben Brantley<\/strong>, who says it &#8220;offers the perfect sunny holiday for frozen Eastern city dwellers.&#8221; Still, he frets that &#8220;theater pundits have worried that the show might have lost its momentum in the meantime. An overextended preview period in the dead of a glacial winter and all but invisible advertising haven\u2019t helped.
