Its goal, however, is for the <strong>Seminole Tribe<\/strong> to\u00a0\u201cact quickly if an appropriate investment opportunity arises.\u201d And those opportunities could indeed arise should, for instance, <strong>Curtis Bashaw<\/strong> seek a gaming-experienced partner for his <strong>Chelsea Hotel<\/strong>, to which he&#8217;d like to add gambling. Also, hiring Hard Rock to run his <strong>Revel<\/strong> casino would be the least-daffy thing <strong>Glenn Straub<\/strong> has done so far.<\/p>\n<p>But Hard Rock has already had a look at Revel and passed on it. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/business\/homepage\/20150126_ap_f35d1df97dce4e52ae9f037c06e63fa4.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">So it may be going back to Plan A<\/a>: <!--more-->a museum, 208-room hotel and casino. Since the &#8217;boutique casino&#8217; law now permits the use of preexisting buildings, the idea no longer seems so far-fetched. In either case, the prospect of reinvestment in Atlantic City <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/business\/homepage\/20150127_N_J__to_consider_Hard_Rock_casino_application.html\" target=\"_blank\">is getting attention<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* With <strong>New York State<\/strong> and <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> casinos creeping closer to its borders, it was only a matter of time before it became of matter of discussion in <strong>Vermont<\/strong>. It&#8217;s being pushed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Vermont.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15409\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Vermont.jpg\" alt=\"Vermont\" width=\"267\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Vermont.jpg 267w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Vermont-150x106.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 267px) 100vw, 267px\" \/><\/a>by state Rep. <strong>Ronald Hubert<\/strong>, who&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesargus.com\/article\/20150127\/NEWS03\/701279921\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">hoping the seventh time will be the charm<\/a>. Hubert&#8217;s proposal, which has healthy support in the GOP caucus, would empower the <strong>Vermont Lottery Commission<\/strong> to license one casino, for $6 million on the barrelhead. The casino would be taxed at 10%, with the money earmarked to help elderly Vermonters on fixed incomes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in such desperate need for taxes, how about some voluntary taxes? It\u2019s something that most states have done, and the numbers show that we could bring in annually somewhere between $8 million to $15 million to state coffers,\u201d Hubert queried.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s going to run into a firm &#8220;no&#8221; from freshly re-elected Gov. <strong>Peter Shumlin<\/strong> and from Speaker of the House <strong>Shap Smith<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cAs long as he\u2019s governor, he\u2019ll do everything in his power to stop casino gaming in Vermont,\u201d Shumlin&#8217;s spokesman said. Smith cited evidence of oversaturation, adding,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m not a big fan of casinos at all as a way to fund state government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>* If you&#8217;re playing keno in <strong>Nebraska<\/strong>, you have to wait five minutes between games. Legislators want to remove that inconvenience &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ktiv.com\/story\/27943780\/keno-bill-sparks-debate-once-again-in-nebraska-legislature\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">because it might put another $1.3 million<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Larson.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-15410\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Larson.jpg\" alt=\"Larson\" width=\"167\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Larson.jpg 201w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Larson-120x150.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 167px) 100vw, 167px\" \/><\/a>the state budget. In other legislative action, state Sen. <strong>Tyson Larson<\/strong> wants to reclassify at least some iterations of poker as games as skill, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pokernews.com\/news\/2015\/01\/nebraska-senator-set-to-introduce-bill-that-seeks-to-define-20421.htm\" target=\"_blank\">enabling them to be played for money<\/a> in the Cornhusker State. Bars could host poker games with a &#8220;special endorsement&#8221; and 5% tax payment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can be a professional poker player; you cannot be a professional coin flipper. You can lose a poker game on purpose; you can&#8217;t lose a coin flip on purpose,&#8221; Larson reasoned. &#8220;You can have the worst hand in poker but be the best player.\u00a0The math is there; the statistics are there.
