Now there&#8217;s Menzelgate. Could <strong>Idina Menzel<\/strong> have done prop bettors a favor by <a href=\"http:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/blogs\/nfl-shutdown-corner\/betting-on-idina-menzel-s-national-anthem-halted-when-insider-info-suspected-231932218.html\" target=\"_blank\">deliberately fixing the timing<\/a> of her glorious, unaccompanied rendition of our national anthem? Her triumphant fist-pump could mean she&#8217;d nailed the time as surely as a <strong>Julian Edelman<\/strong> catch. Say not so, Idina!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/screen.yahoo.com\/idina-menzel-performs-national-anthem-235438587.html?format=embed\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>* Speaking of the <strong>Super Bowl<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/fansided.com\/2015\/02\/01\/donald-trump-blames-obama-for-seahawks-super-bowl-play-call\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">when it comes to sports analysis<\/a>, <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> is a casino investor\u00a0and a lousy one at that.<\/p>\n<p>* Yet another state is considering making fantasy sports a <!--more-->for-money proposition. While stopping short of approving sports betting, the <strong>Iowa<\/strong> Senate is mulling a bill that would allow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Iowa-seal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12194\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Iowa-seal.jpg\" alt=\"Iowa seal\" width=\"224\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Iowa-seal.jpg 224w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Iowa-seal-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a>casinos in the Hawkeye State <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2015\/02\/04\/iowa-fantasy-sports-casino\/22889359\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">to offer fantasy-sports wagering events<\/a>. SB1068 is similar to another bill that expired on the state senate floor last year, but this year&#8217;s iteration passed out of committee with only a single dissent.\u00a0&#8220;Fantasy sports as defined by the U.S. government is a game of skill. It is not a game of chance,&#8221; says primary sponsor Sen. <strong>Jeff Danielson<\/strong> (D). Since the games would not be treated as gambling, they would fall outside the purview of\u00a0the <strong>Iowa Racing &amp;\u00a0Gaming Commission<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Representing the old-maid caucus in the state Senate, \u00a0opponent Sen. <strong>David Johnson<\/strong> (R) wrung his hands, saying,\u00a0&#8220;I understand that this has great popularity, but do we really need to legalize these activities, and what kind of a message does that send?&#8221; It says that Iowans are grownups and should be treated as such.<\/p>\n<p>* It&#8217;s been three months since South Dakotans authorized the Legislature to expand gambling in <strong>Deadwood<\/strong> by adding roulette, craps and keno, but the enabling legislation is only just now clearing the <strong>Senate State Affairs Committee<\/strong>, albeit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.therepublic.com\/view\/story\/b3cbc3a127c74670bf002caed1b320d5\/SD--Deadwood-Gambling\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">by an auspicious 7-1 margin<\/a>. Naysayers are trying to kill the electorate&#8217;s message in the Lege. But, as state Sen. <strong>Dan Lederman<\/strong> said,\u00a0&#8220;I think it would be out of line for this committee to reject that decision made by the people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Internet<\/strong> poker <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pokernews.com\/news\/2015\/02\/online-poker-legislation-dies-in-mississippi-again-20532.htm\" target=\"_blank\">died a speedy death<\/a> in <strong>Mississippi<\/strong>.
