Allowing that casino-floor performance was &#8220;pretty <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/450px-Cosmopolitan_from_Las_Vegas_Blvd.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11245\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/450px-Cosmopolitan_from_Las_Vegas_Blvd-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"450px-Cosmopolitan_from_Las_Vegas_Blvd\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/450px-Cosmopolitan_from_Las_Vegas_Blvd-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/450px-Cosmopolitan_from_Las_Vegas_Blvd-112x150.jpg 112w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/450px-Cosmopolitan_from_Las_Vegas_Blvd.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>anemic,&#8221; he hopes to make it more attractive to high rollers. This involves causing it to\u00a0\u201cresonate and have more energy and personality,\u201d like the restaurant areas, the Cosmo&#8217;s bastion of strength.\u00a0\u201cThere seems to be a disconnect between the spaces, and the casino floor feels more transient to me,\u201d said McBeath, pithily assessing the casino&#8217;s vibe &#8212; or lack thereof.\u00a0\u201cThere\u2019s not enough cool places to embrace and interact socially.\u201d Agreed.<\/p>\n<p>The improvements he envisions\u00a0\u201caren\u2019t gaming <em>per se<\/em>, but are more user-friendly and more in line with the contemporary, cool, hip brand that we are.\u201d Whatever that means. Just like its predecessor, <strong>Deutsche Bank<\/strong>, new owner <strong>Blackstone Group<\/strong>&#8216;s commitment to the Cosmo is transitory, so McBeath may\u00a0need to work quickly, although Blackstone overlord <strong>Jonathan Gray<\/strong> says <!--more-->&#8220;people want to consume this experience.\u00a0We\u2019re a big believer in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>.\u201d That belief will entail, in part, finishing some never-completed hotel rooms and possibly even adding more (hotel revenue being another strong suit).<\/p>\n<p>There seems to be a rapprochement with the <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vegasinc.com\/business\/gaming\/2015\/feb\/20\/heres-what-we-know-about-cosmopolitans-new-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">which was on hand\u00a0at a recent Cosmo press conference<\/a> and whose parent, <strong>Unite-Here<\/strong>, represents workers at other Blackstone properties. McBeath even got a lavish tribute from Unite-Here President <strong>D. Taylor<\/strong>, who enthused,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve known Bill for over 20 years, and he has run some of the most successful properties. He is very focused, he is a true professional \u2026 I can honestly say the best days of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will be in the future with Bill running the helm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I guess we won&#8217;t see any more picketing at the Cosmo in the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XZla4yBJHis\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>* The judges who will be hearing oral arguments on <strong>New Jersey<\/strong>&#8216;s attempt to legalize sports betting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/news\/appeals-judges-named-in-new-jersey-sports-betting-case-1.1274579\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">have some interesting connections<\/a>, one being Mrs. <strong>Ed Rendell<\/strong>, another being the sister of <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong>. (Hey, you don&#8217;t get to choose your siblings.) <strong>Maryanne Trump Barry<\/strong> is a <strong>Ronald Reagan<\/strong> appointee who was elevated to the <strong>Third Circuit Court of Appeals<\/strong> by <strong>Bill Clinton<\/strong>. The latter also put <strong>Marjorie Rendell<\/strong> on the bench and eventually onto the Third Circuit. New Jersey Gov. <strong>Chris Christie<\/strong> (R) is fighting an uphill battle against the\u00a0<strong>Professional &amp;\u00a0Amateur Sports Protection Act<\/strong>, which presently limits sports wagering to four states. The third judge on the Third Circuit panel, <strong>Julio Fuentes<\/strong>, has ruled against the Garden State before, so the state will have to be extra-persuasive in Barry and Rendell households.<\/p>\n<p>* Mistaking one swallow for a spring, <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> CEO <strong>Jim Murren<\/strong> said it was an &#8220;encouraging sign&#8221; for the Vegas economy that <strong>Vice Media<\/strong> CEO <strong>Shane Smith<\/strong> dropped <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/report-exec-popped-300k-dinner-after-run-blackjack\" target=\"_blank\">$300,000 on a dinner<\/a> for 12-25 people at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/referenceguide-diningdetail.cfm?DiningID=11\">Prime<\/a>. If 25 people had each spent $12,000 on dinner that would be more encouraging.
