Although its mass-market focus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sands_2960963401.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12587\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sands_2960963401-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"Sands_296096340\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sands_2960963401-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sands_2960963401-116x150.jpg 116w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sands_2960963401.jpg 318w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a>shelters it from the worst of the downturn, <strong>Sands China<\/strong> is mulling cuts in its entertainment and marketing budgets.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re not looking to take it apart, the whole structure, but reexamine where those opportunities to run it cleaner and better,\u201d said <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> President <strong>Rob Goldstein<\/strong>, adding that the company&#8217;s shopping mall is actually performing better than ever.<\/p>\n<p>Over at <strong>Wynn Macau<\/strong>, even more stringent measures are allegedly being promoted. The company is supposedly urging its employees to take unpaid leave. When this reached the ears of\u00a0Secretary for Economy and Finance <strong>Lionel Leong<\/strong>, he responded that the casino should be offering additional, paid training instead.<\/p>\n<p>* Sands China, meanwhile, got spanked in <!--more--><strong>Clark County District Court<\/strong>, which ordered it to cease withholding certain documents in the <strong>Steven Jacobs<\/strong> wrongful-termination case. To make sure the message across, Judge <strong>Elizabeth Gonzalez<\/strong> levied a $250,000 (payable to local legal charities) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/sands-china-ltd-hit-sanctions-witholding-documents\" target=\"_blank\">and pay Jacobs&#8217; court costs<\/a>. Sands plans to appeal. Sands China&#8217;s\u00a0\u201congoing noncompliance is incompatible with and undermines the search for truth,\u201d wrote Gonzalez, who added,\u00a0\u201cOne of the principal sanctions this court imposed for the mis\u00adrepresentations and lack of candor continues to be ignored by SCL.\u201d As for nine hearings that were held over the <strong>Macao Personal Data Protection Act<\/strong>,&#8221; Gonzalez dubbed them &#8220;needless.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* Parimutuel horse racing put a hoof forward in <strong>Georgia<\/strong> last week. The Legislature&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Senate Regulated Industries Committee<\/strong> voted overwhelmingly to send onward\u00a0<strong>Senate Resolution 135<\/strong>. There\u2019s just a tremendous social cost that comes with it,\u201d said state Sen. <strong>William Ligon<\/strong> (R), sounding a familiar note.
