That&apos;s because <strong>Clark County<\/strong> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegassun.com\/news\/2009\/aug\/19\/how-clubs-punished-warn-warn-again\">a long history of looking the other way<\/a> or, at most, administering the occasional love-tap on the wrist. But when Gaming Control lays down a half-million-buck fine, it&apos;s kind of hard for Clark County Manager <strong>Virginia Valentine<\/strong>&apos;s crew to keep their heads in the sand, pretending to be invisible.<\/p>\n<p>Hence the revocation of Priv&eacute;&apos;s license, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvrj.com\/business\/53675052.html\">quickly restored<\/a> once the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegassun.com\/news\/2009\/aug\/19\/boards-waffling-nightclub-vote-had-side-juice\"><em>Titanic<\/em> deck chairs were rearranged<\/a> and the vessel rechristened the <em>Lusitania<\/em>. I feel much better now, don&apos;t you? (It should be noted that there&apos;s a sizeable constituency in Las Vegas that thinks the county and NGCB should turn a blind eye and <em>laissesz les bon temps roulez<\/em>. Hey, why don&apos;t we bring back bribery, too? If those officials are going to be ignoring the laws they&apos;re charged with enforcing, shouldn&apos;t they be compensated for it?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kudos to<\/strong> the ever-clever management of <strong>Cannery Casino Resorts<\/strong>. They&apos;ve struck a deal with <strong>ESPN<\/strong> to allow simulcast of <strong>Monday Night Football<\/strong> on Galaxy Theaters&apos; giant DMAX screen at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/referenceguide-locationdetail.cfm?LocationID=680\">the original Cannery<\/a>. The festivities begin on Sept. 14 with a <strong>Bills\/Patriots<\/strong> and <strong>Chargers\/Raiders<\/strong> doubleheader. (OK, the nightcap sounds like a real dog, but <em>MNF<\/em> doesn&apos;t get the pick of the litter since moving to cable.)<\/p>\n<p>A 60-foot-tall <strong>Terrell Owens<\/strong>? Scary! More worrisome still: Will egomaniac <strong>Jon Gruden<\/strong> hog the mike this season, elbowing aside co-analyst <strong>Ron Jaworski<\/strong>? Nobody breaks down a play like &quot;Jaws&quot; but will &quot;Chucky&quot; let him get a word in edgewise?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Wynn must be getting<\/strong> a little apprehensive about how Labor Commissioner <strong>Michael Tanchek<\/strong>&apos;s long-running hearings on tip confiscation will play out. Wynn&apos;s benched the able <strong>Gregory Kamer<\/strong>, as well as Wynn Resorts&apos; in-house counsel, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvrj.com\/business\/53675057.html\">in favor of Beltway attorney<\/a> <strong>Eugene Scalia<\/strong>. And, yes, his dad is <em>that<\/em> Scalia. (Does anybody else think the Bush administration passed over Scalia Sr. for Chief Justice in favor of <strong>John Roberts<\/strong> because he &#8212; unlike Roberts &#8212; was too contentious to forge majority rulings? Just me? OK.)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Wait Until Dark<\/strong><\/em> (@ CSN) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvrj.com\/taste\/53675082.html\">obtains tepid praise<\/a> from the <em>R-J<\/em>. I saw it last Friday. What&apos;s my verdict? Tune in tomorrow!<\/p>\n<p><strong>There&apos;s only one Native American<\/strong> currently serving on the federal bench. Might <strong>Nevada<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvrj.com\/news\/53675167.html\">make it two<\/a>? <strong>Vito de la Cruz<\/strong>, <em>S&amp;G<\/em> hopes you receive due consideration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economic parable<\/strong>: Once upon a time there were two thrift stores in my neighborhood. One, run by <strong>Catholic Charities<\/strong>, sold good merchandise. The other, <strong>Goodwill<\/strong>, peddled garbage. Guess which one <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvrj.com\/blogs\/schumacher\/Catholic_Charities_to_reopen_one_of_its_thrift_stores.html\">went out of business<\/a>?
