Had the Nevada Gaming Control Board<\/strong> not come down upon Planet Hollywood<\/strong> like a hod of bricks, it's entirely probable that Privé<\/strong> would still be up to its scofflaw antics. That's because Clark County<\/strong> has a long history of looking the other way<\/a> or, at most, administering the occasional love-tap on the wrist. But when Gaming Control lays down a half-million-buck fine, it's kind of hard for Clark County Manager Virginia Valentine<\/strong>'s crew to keep their heads in the sand, pretending to be invisible.<\/p>\n

Hence the revocation of Privé's license, quickly restored<\/a> once the Titanic<\/em> deck chairs were rearranged<\/a> and the vessel rechristened the Lusitania<\/em>. I feel much better now, don't you? (It should be noted that there's a sizeable constituency in Las Vegas that thinks the county and NGCB should turn a blind eye and laissesz les bon temps roulez<\/em>. Hey, why don't we bring back bribery, too? If those officials are going to be ignoring the laws they're charged with enforcing, shouldn't they be compensated for it?)<\/p>\n

Kudos to<\/strong> the ever-clever management of Cannery Casino Resorts<\/strong>. They've struck a deal with ESPN<\/strong> to allow simulcast of Monday Night Football<\/strong> on Galaxy Theaters' giant DMAX screen at the original Cannery<\/a>. The festivities begin on Sept. 14 with a Bills\/Patriots<\/strong> and Chargers\/Raiders<\/strong> doubleheader. (OK, the nightcap sounds like a real dog, but MNF<\/em> doesn't get the pick of the litter since moving to cable.)<\/p>\n

A 60-foot-tall Terrell Owens<\/strong>? Scary! More worrisome still: Will egomaniac Jon Gruden<\/strong> hog the mike this season, elbowing aside co-analyst Ron Jaworski<\/strong>? Nobody breaks down a play like "Jaws" but will "Chucky" let him get a word in edgewise?<\/p>\n

Steve Wynn must be getting<\/strong> a little apprehensive about how Labor Commissioner Michael Tanchek<\/strong>'s long-running hearings on tip confiscation will play out. Wynn's benched the able Gregory Kamer<\/strong>, as well as Wynn Resorts' in-house counsel, in favor of Beltway attorney<\/a> Eugene Scalia<\/strong>. And, yes, his dad is that<\/em> Scalia. (Does anybody else think the Bush administration passed over Scalia Sr. for Chief Justice in favor of John Roberts<\/strong> because he — unlike Roberts — was too contentious to forge majority rulings? Just me? OK.)<\/p>\n

Wait Until Dark<\/strong><\/em> (@ CSN) obtains tepid praise<\/a> from the R-J<\/em>. I saw it last Friday. What's my verdict? Tune in tomorrow!<\/p>\n
