Blame baccarat: Play was down 22%, although players took the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Cosmo-1978.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4105\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Cosmo-1978-269x300.jpg\" alt=\"Cosmo 1978\" width=\"269\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Cosmo-1978-269x300.jpg 269w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Cosmo-1978-134x150.jpg 134w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Cosmo-1978.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 269px) 100vw, 269px\" \/><\/a>house to the cleaners, with casino win down 23%. Were it not for the baccarat blowout, Strip gaming revenues would have been up 3%. <strong>J.P. Morgan<\/strong> analyst <strong>Joseph Greff<\/strong> wrote that &#8220;the market should continue to experience volatility in baccarat play given the slowdown in Chinese players; that said, non-baccarat table and slot handle volumes are getting better,&#8221; adding that slot revenue numbers were artificially low because the month ended on a Saturday. (Weekend slot play isn&#8217;t counted until Monday.) Even so, slot win rose 4.5%, even on 2% lower coin-in. Non-baccarat table play was flat, grossing $165 million.<\/p>\n<p>For a change, locals play outdid the Strip, rising 4%, even with <strong>Downtown<\/strong> only <!--more-->up 1% and <strong>North Las Vegas<\/strong> flat. <strong>Laughlin<\/strong>, however, enjoyed a 7% boost and the <strong>Boulder Strip<\/strong> rolled up an 11% increase. <strong>Reno<\/strong> revenues rose 3% and <strong>Lake Tahoe<\/strong> enjoyed what is, for it, a stable month, up 5%.\u00a0\u00a0Meanwhile, elsewhere in <strong>Nevada<\/strong>, the scars of the Great Recession <a href=\"http:\/\/vegasinc.com\/business\/real-estate\/2015\/mar\/31\/luxury-henderson-apartment-complex-abandoned-durin\/\" target=\"_blank\">continue to heal over<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deutsche Bank<\/strong> analyst <strong>Carlo Santarelli<\/strong> blamed the Strip&#8217;s anemia on &#8220;a lighter large-scale convention calendar for the month &#8230;\u00a0as large scale convention attendees were down 14% y\/y.&#8221;\u00a0On the Strip, <strong>The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas<\/strong> reported <a href=\"http:\/\/vegasinc.com\/news\/2015\/mar\/30\/cosmopolitan-revenue\/?utm_source=mostpopular&amp;utm_medium=banner&amp;utm_campaign=mostRead&amp;_ga=1.25974973.181002990.1421958548\" target=\"_blank\">a 13% increase in net revenue<\/a>, to $739 million, and its operating loss narrowed to $69 million from $106 million. Those improved numbers were helped by a 31% growth in casino revenue ($203 million), meaning there&#8217;s hope for this place yet.
