Now we&#8217;ll see if he&#8217;s like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Straub.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Straub.jpg\" alt=\"Straub\" width=\"80\" height=\"89\" \/><\/a>the dog who caught the car or he has a winning formula for a property that has done nothing but lose since Day One. Judge <strong>Gloria Burns<\/strong> ruled,\u00a0&#8220;The consideration to be provided by the purchaser pursuant to the agreement is fair and reasonable; is the highest or otherwise best offer for the assets; will provide a greater recovery for the debtors&#8217; creditors than would be provided by any other practically available alternative; and constitutes reasonably equivalent value and fair consideration under the Bankruptcy Code.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/business\/judge-approves-revel-sale-to-glenn-straub\/article_119b8ae4-d929-11e4-af6e-074dbccde7b9.ht\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">Sighed Burns<\/a>, &#8220;there&#8217;s no funding left&#8221; to prolong the bankruptcy sale.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/CBSPHL.images.worldnow.com\/interface\/js\/WNVideo.js?rnd=277245;hostDomain=video.philadelphia.cbslocal.com;playerWidth=450;playerHeight=253;isShowIcon=true;clipId=11352809;flvUri=;partnerclipid=;adTag=News;advertisingZone=CBS.PHILLY%252Fworldnowplayer;enableAds=true;landingPage=;islandingPageoverride=false;playerType=STANDARD_EMBEDDEDscript;controlsType=overlay\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>As for the vexatious issue of <!--more-->the tenants and their rights under Straub, who sported a yellow Revel security windbreaker and offered some eccentric testimony, Burns kicked that can down the road \u00a0by saying it was an issue for a different forum. Their rights though, she said, were not voided by her sale order, although she said they could hope for little more than a penny once\u00a0bankers and lawyers have been paid. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/judge-to-approve-82-million-sale-of-revel-casino-to-florida-developer-1428012108\" target=\"_blank\">Straub plans to evict them all<\/a> before proceeding with grander schemes, including completion of the long-in-abeyance second hotel tower.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ACR Energy Partners<\/strong> loses out, told that its business with Revel is not an &#8220;assumed contract.&#8221; (ACR&#8217;s hard-line insistence on being reimbursed for the cost of its power plant and defaulted energy bills scared off a last-minute bid by developers <strong>Howard Milstein<\/strong> and <strong>Carl Goldberg<\/strong>). By outflanking Carl Icahn and buying the adjacent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Griffin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-6635\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Griffin-136x150.jpg\" alt=\"Griffin\" width=\"136\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Griffin-136x150.jpg 136w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Griffin-272x300.jpg 272w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Griffin.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 136px) 100vw, 136px\" \/><\/a>Showboat, Straub now has alternative means of connecting to the power grid, piggybacking onto Showboat&#8217;s infrastructure. The Showboat purchase was a real <em>coup de foudre<\/em>, coming out of a clear blue sky: <a href=\"http:\/\/philadelphia.cbslocal.com\/2015\/04\/03\/after-revel-developer-glenn-straub-wants-to-buy-showboat-casino-site-too\/\" target=\"_blank\">Straub pays $26 million<\/a>, <strong>Stockton University<\/strong> makes an $8 million profit on the property and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/breaking\/stockton-and-straub-announce-deal-for-atlantic-city\/article_dd1ac60e-da3b-11e4-9c3f-bb7e1bf6ae1d.html\" target=\"_blank\">Icahn now has to pick on someone his own size<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/breaking\/stockton-and-straub-announce-deal-for-atlantic-city\/article_dd1ac60e-da3b-11e4-9c3f-bb7e1bf6ae1d.html\" target=\"_blank\">Straub plans to lease the Showboat<\/a> back to Stockton, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/statement-by-stockton-university-president-herman-saatkamp\/article_ce676e98-da3e-11e4-b932-03e49c3cfff9.html\" target=\"_blank\">much to the vexation of Icahn&#8217;s minions<\/a>, who have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/education\/stockton-students-union-members-protest-at-taj\/article_cb64d29c-d978-11e4-9809-33fa929d1649.html\" target=\"_blank\">already thwarted Stockton&#8217;s summer session<\/a>.\u00a0<strong>Trump Entertainment Resorts<\/strong>&#8216; CEO <strong>Robert Griffin<\/strong> took time off from running <strong>Trump Taj Mahal<\/strong> into the ground <a href=\"http:\/\/www.therepublic.com\/view\/story\/9c152c4b40df46a5885cd318c2e6fa0e\/NJ--Revel-Buyer-Atlantic-City\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">to come out against education at the Showboat<\/a>. &#8220;We will not permit it,&#8221; thundered Griffin(<em>left<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe tried making himself seem like he was the better person,&#8221; a Stockton student emissary said of Griffin, who tried to fob off derelict <strong>Trump Plaza<\/strong> on the school. The pompous\u00a0CEO is flying in the face of civic sentiment.\u00a0\u201cBy all means, we\u2019re going to move forward and keep Showboat as a university.\u00a0We are a big proponent and a big supporter of having the economy diversified,\u201d said city council President <strong>Frank M. Gilliam<\/strong>. Mayor <strong>Don Guardian<\/strong>&#8216;s chief of staff, <strong>Chris Filiciello<\/strong>, added,\u00a0\u201cWe all agree that the university is the best use for that property and for <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>.\u201d Strangely, Straub wasn&#8217;t feeling the love, testifying\u00a0\u201cIt is just tough to do business in that city. How many times have I met with the mayor?\u201d The aforementioned mayor said,\u00a0\u201cThis is the future of our city and there is nothing more important than bringing Stockton to Atlantic City. I am sorry that everything in this city is so difficult, but this is a no brainer. This is good for Atlantic City now and in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stockton, incidentally, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/philadelphia\/morning_roundup\/2015\/04\/new-revel-owner-agrees-to-buy-showboat-unveils.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">gets to repurchase the casino if Icahn and Griffin&#8217;s obstructionism goes away in the next year and a half<\/a>, prompting Stockton President <strong>Herman Saatkamp<\/strong> to<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revel_0601.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-14296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revel_0601-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"revel_0601\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revel_0601-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revel_0601-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revel_0601.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>say,\u00a0&#8220;I am assured by counsel and others that we are on very firm ground should there be any legal challenges by any casinos regarding the 1988 covenant.&#8221; In the meantime, Straub gets to roll up his sleeves and get cracking on $150 million in improvements to Revel.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just the start: Straub is talking about a half-billion-dollar capital commitment to Atlantic City for which buying <strong>Bader Field<\/strong> and turning it back into a working airport is just the start. <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/wireStory\/judge-enters-sale-order-revel-deal-close-30118304\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">The grand scheme is called the Phoenix Project<\/a>, although it would be a bit of an exaggeration to like Atlantic City to a pile of ashes.<\/p>\n<p>The last (?) word should go to <strong>Wells Fargo<\/strong> attorney <strong>Thomas Kreller<\/strong>, who pleaded with Judge Burns to stop believing that &#8220;there&#8217;s light at the end of the tunnel. Your honor: There isn&#8217;t a tunnel. It&#8217;s a hole. What was supposed to be the opening of a <strong>Fat Tuesday<\/strong> turned into a cage match involving two dozen chair-throwing combatants.
