That&#8217;s tomorrow. Today&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kansas.com\/news\/state\/story\/1098683.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">the first day of business<\/a> for $48 million <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boothillcasino.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\"><strong>Boot Hill Casino &amp; Resort<\/strong><\/a>, in <strong>Dodge City<\/strong>. Avionics firm (!) and relatively novice casino developer <strong>Butler National<\/strong> did what brand names <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong>, <strong>MGM Mirage<\/strong>, <strong>Foxwoods Resort Casino<\/strong>, <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong>, <strong>Golden Gaming<\/strong> and <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Entertainment<\/strong> could not: obtain a <strong>Kansas<\/strong> casino license <a href=\"http:\/\/cjonline.com\/news\/state\/2009-12-15\/casino_expected_to_open_tuesday\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">and open<\/a> within the original timetable. (In a concession to the economy, Kansas has allowed total build-out to be <a href=\"http:\/\/cjonline.com\/news\/state\/2009-12-11\/boot_hill_casino_passes_first_test\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">postponed until late 2011<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to Butler for not knowing that it was doing the impossible. I&#8217;d quote <em>Space: 1999<\/em> and say, &#8220;The impossible just takes a little bit longer,&#8221; except that Butler&#8217;s alacrity from start to finish disproved that maxim. Ladies and gentlemen of Butler, take a bow. And to think it was only a year ago that a bunch of fellers in white Stetsons broke ground on Boot Hill.
