The casinos is the $330 million linchpin of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Rivers-Schenectady.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-16362\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Rivers-Schenectady-300x181.jpg\" alt=\"Rivers Schenectady\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Rivers-Schenectady-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Rivers-Schenectady-150x91.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Rivers-Schenectady.jpg 628w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>$480 million development which includes a rather plain-looking hotel, bike paths and condos. (Design has never been a strong point of Rush Street&#8217;s.) Neil Bluhm&#8217;s company has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/news\/article\/This-time-a-contemporary-look-6376815.php#photo-8286184\" target=\"_blank\">endeavored to retool the exterior appearance<\/a> without changing the casino&#8217;s footprint. The modernistic solution it has devised is advertised as an attempt to reflect &#8220;new Schenectady.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a much more refreshing, modern look. I don&#8217;t want to use the word high-tech, but it&#8217;s a little bit high-tech, so I think <!--more-->the message is clear. It&#8217;s a modern building,&#8221; said Rush Street&#8217;s <strong>Mike Levin<\/strong>, who drew a line in the sand against the possibility of a Rivers 4.0: &#8220;we&#8217;re very comfortable with this approach and we would hate to go back to the drawing board again.&#8221; In other words, live with it. An interim design, described as &#8220;homage to the <strong>Alco<\/strong> site,&#8221; played to poor reviews. Considering the restrictions Rush Street has imposed on itself, I&#8217;m not sure they&#8217;re out of the woods with the planning board just yet.<\/p>\n<p>* It&#8217;s amazing what Chapter 11 has done for <strong>Caesars Entertainment Operating Co<\/strong>. (aka &#8220;Bad Caesars&#8221;). The subsidiary of <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/caesars-unit-records-249-million-net-income-may\" target=\"_blank\">eked out a $25 million profit<\/a> last month. It&#8217;s also going to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/news\/new_jersey\/20150710_Casino_future_not_in_Trump_Plaza_cards.html\" target=\"_blank\">avoid a property tax bill<\/a> in <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>, thanks to the <strong>Showboat<\/strong>&#8216;s closure last summer, even though the property was running an operating profit at the time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Metal panels and precast stone&#8221; are the look of Rivers Casino 3.0, as Rush Street Gaming struggles to find a design that sits well with Schenectady city fathers.
