Then you file bankruptcy on Monday, before you&#8217;ve even had a chance to sober up. (Geez, better book a few more Vegas dates to pay those Chapter 11 lawyers.) How fitting that the insolvent Jackson chose to ring in another year at a <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> property.<\/p>\n<p>* While we&#8217;re on the subject of Caesars, I haven&#8217;t been back to <em><a href=\"http:\/\/deals.lasvegasadvisor.com\/shows\/jubilee.html?CFID=149589945&amp;CFTOKEN=69967220\">Jubilee!<\/a><\/em> since it was turned into a hybrid of new and old acts, in <!--more-->an attempt to lure millennials. I&#8217;ve heard the result was a disaster but have not been able to ascertain for myself. Rest assured the campy <strong>Samson and Delilah<\/strong> segment (the funniest thing on the Strip) remains intact. Even after a revamp, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thrillist.com\/entertainment\/las-vegas\/inside-jubilee-las-vegas-last-topless-revue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the show&#8217;s infrastructure is forbiddingly large<\/a>. We should be thankful that Caesars hasn&#8217;t sacrificed the show on the altar of cost-cutting.<\/p>\n<p>* It looks like <strong>SLS Las Vegas<\/strong> is giving up on its hipster-magnet marketing position and pivoting toward the <strong>Las Vegas Convention <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Kreeger.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13756\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Kreeger.jpg\" alt=\"Kreeger\" width=\"148\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Kreeger.jpg 148w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Kreeger-115x150.jpg 115w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 148px) 100vw, 148px\" \/><\/a>Center<\/strong> as a source of bodies in hotel beds. SLS President <strong>Scott Kreeger<\/strong> is\u00a0talking about doubling meeting and banquet space, although it&#8217;s not immediately clear how this would be accomplished within the old <strong>Sahara<\/strong> footprint, <a href=\"http:\/\/lasvegassun.com\/blogs\/kats-report\/2015\/jul\/13\/despite-slow-start-sls-boss-confident-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">but Kreeger is sanguine<\/a>. He\u00a0concedes that the SLS brand equity (such as it was) &#8220;was a little bit more exclusionary than it was approachable&#8221; and will be modified for greater mass-market appeal. He concedes that the buffet was a conceptual botch and SLS was too nightlife-oriented &#8230; although that doesn&#8217;t leave <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/sls-pic.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14791\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/sls-pic.png\" alt=\"sls-pic\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/sls-pic.png 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/sls-pic-150x100.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>it anywhere to diversify but in the casino. (Psssst! Ever hear of 3:2 blackjack? Institute it, market it and players will beatify you. After all, you&#8217;re taking about giving gamblers a &#8220;good value.&#8221;) Kreeger concludes by saying\u00a0SLS is &#8220;set up to be a great locals casino.&#8221; That&#8217;s a long way from <strong>Sam Nazarian<\/strong> and his <strong>Beverly Hills<\/strong>\u00a0posturing, but at least someone at SLS seems to recognize that the situation there is a very, very serious.<\/p>\n<p>* The <em>New York Times<\/em> has belatedly discovered the <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> pool party scene and the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/07\/12\/opinion\/sunday\/money-sex-and-las-vegas-pool-parties.html?emc=edit_th_20150712&amp;nl=todaysheadlines&amp;nlid=15322375&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">blatant sex discrimination<\/a>&#8221; that comes with the territory. Casinos skirt this problem with semantic gymnastics that wouldn&#8217;t fool a child but keep them out of the EEOC&#8217;s reach. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tao-Beach.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13813\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tao-Beach-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Tao Beach\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tao-Beach-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tao-Beach-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tao-Beach-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Tao-Beach.jpg 1599w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Considering how lucrative a gig it is to dance attendance upon the affluent at a Vegas beach club, nobody seems much inclined to protest the beauty-contest method by which these jobs are doled out.<\/p>\n<p>And, surprise surprise, it&#8217;s still a man&#8217;s world, with male bar staff working in shirts and knee-length shorts, while bikini-clad female workers aren&#8217;t just on display, they&#8217;re also subject to the indignity of period weigh-ins. (Attitudes haven&#8217;t changed much since <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>\u00a0allegedly told a group of cocktail waitresses that &#8220;none of your fat asses&#8221; were going over to <strong>Bellagio<\/strong>.) However, the <em>Times<\/em> seems to be engaging in wishful thinking when it asserts that pool-party revenue outgrosses gambling. Ha!<\/p>\n<p>So, if casinos are applying a double standard for men and women, what&#8217;s their shield? Something called &#8220;bona fide occupational qualification,&#8221; by which they can contend that the skimpily clad female servers are &#8220;representing the essence of a brand.&#8221; So far that&#8217;s suited the courts just fine, so casinos can breath easily.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230; if you&#8217;re Curtis &#8220;50 Cent&#8221; Jackson?\u00a0Naturally, you throw yourself a birthday party\u00a0atop The Cromwell, with seemingly half the NBA in attendance.
