It&#8217;s actually catching up with <strong>Dan Gilbert<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>ThistleDown Racino<\/strong>, which slipped 22% and is on a trajectory for last place in the Buckeye State. How the mighty have fallen. Gilbert&#8217;s <strong>Horseshoe Cleveland<\/strong> ($17 million, -17%) has slipped to third place in the state but he could take some comfort in the performance of <strong>Horseshoe Cincinnati<\/strong> ($17 million, up 6%).<\/p>\n<p>State leader <strong>Hard Rock Rocksino<\/strong> socked away $19 million, a 14% increase. Despite tightening its\u00a0slots, <!--more--><strong>Hollywood Casino Columbus<\/strong> slid 13%, generating $171\/slot\/day. (Maybe some of those players were over at <strong>Eldorado Resorts<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Scioto Downs<\/strong>, up 1%.) <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong>-managed <strong>Hollywood Casino Toledo<\/strong>, however, managed a slight (2%) uptick and an impressive $212\/slot\/day, despite looser holds. Out at the racinos, <strong>Hollywood Austintown<\/strong> continues to do astounding business ($294\/slot\/day), as does <strong>Hollywood Dayton<\/strong> ($234\/slot\/day). Somebody needs to find out what they&#8217;re drinking and send a case of it to Gilbert.<\/p>\n<p>* If you fancy having a bit of a flutter in the Golden Triangle, do we have the casino for you. Its <strong>Kings Romans Casino<\/strong>, an islet of indulgence in a country &#8212; <strong>Laos<\/strong> &#8212; whose reputation for repressiveness is exceeded only by that of <strong>North Korea<\/strong>. Chinese players are the customer of choice but you won&#8217;t find <strong>Sociedade de Jogos de Macau<\/strong> or <strong>Melco Crown Entertainment<\/strong> horning in on the action: Laos has given exclusive gaming rights and a 99-year lease in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone to <strong>Hong Kong<\/strong>-based <strong>Kings Romans Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Customers fly into <strong>Thailand<\/strong> and are bused to the Laotian border. At Kings Romans they find that &#8220;Businesses accept Chinese currency and restaurants serve Chinese fare. Clocks are set to <strong>Beijing<\/strong> time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Kings-Romans.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-16696\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Kings-Romans-300x132.jpg\" alt=\"Kings Romans\" width=\"300\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Kings-Romans-300x132.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Kings-Romans-150x66.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Kings-Romans.jpg 339w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>an hour ahead of the rest of Laos,&#8221; according to the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>. As far as we can tell, the cultivation and smuggling of opium are still the special zone&#8217;s cash crop but Kings Romans has managed, if that were possible, to make the Golden Triangle&#8217;s reputation worse. Instead of the promised golf course, spa (unless you count &#8220;untraditional massages&#8221;) and yacht harbor, you will\u00a0find rampant prostitution, for starters.<\/p>\n<p>Kings Romans is not without daring. It has set up shop in the Wild Wild East area of <strong>Burma<\/strong> known as <strong>Mong La<\/strong>, deep in rebel terrain. Kings Romans has also turned a blind eye to the trafficking of endangered species, such as elephant tusks. From the looks of it, the Laotian government has traded a fair measure of sovereignty for an extra-large serving of corruption.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>&#8216;s labor dispute <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/business\/taj-vs-local-not-your-typical-labor-dispute\/article_2f7a2d8c-57cc-11e5-b87f-537e1688736a.html\" target=\"_blank\">is devolving into farce<\/a>. Using the facade of <strong>Trump Taj Mahal<\/strong> as a giant projection screen, <strong>Unite-Here<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2015\/09\/boycott_taj_trop_casino_workers_union_says_in_labo.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">shone derogatory messages<\/a> about the casino onto its front, in effect using the casino as an advertisement against itself. A judge has put a stop to all the fun but the union is ingenious, lining up protestors along the Boardwalk with body-high neon signs that spell\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;BOYCOTT TAJ.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To furthermore show <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/business\/rat-signals-taj-workers-mobilized-to-strike\/article_c5936510-4bfe-11e5-a9ef-a387090044c3.html\" target=\"_blank\">that it meant business<\/a>, Unite-Here\u00a0rented <strong>Randy the Rat<\/strong>, an inflatable labor mascot known for his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Taj-Mahal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6772\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Taj-Mahal.jpg\" alt=\"Taj Mahal\" width=\"175\" height=\"140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Taj-Mahal.jpg 175w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Taj-Mahal-150x120.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 175px) 100vw, 175px\" \/><\/a>&#8220;distended, carbuncular belly.&#8221; Randy&#8217;s manifestation is regarded as a surefire harbinger of a strike. The union might still prevail in court with its argument that, since it was stripped of its Taj health benefits after the collective bargaining agreement had expired, bankruptcy court Judge <strong>Kevin Gross<\/strong> overstepped his authority in approving what (so the argument goes) is the purview of the <strong>National Labor Relations Board<\/strong>.
