What anybody can do other than run it as a hotel (<strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> having removed its gaming entitlement but forgotten to void a covenant that requires it to be a &#8220;first class&#8221; hotel-casino). Thwarting Stockton is probably <strong>Trump Entertainment Resorts<\/strong> CEO <strong>Bob Griffin<\/strong>&#8216;s biggest achievement, other than closing <strong>Trump Plaza<\/strong>. He can congratulate himself on impeding efforts to diversify the <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> economy.<\/p>\n<p>Straub, meanwhile, must be sniffing glue. He&#8217;s trying to flip <strong>Reve<\/strong>l <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/breaking\/acr-energy-says-revel-owner-looking-to-flip-property\/article_205f577a-563a-11e5-bdf8-2b046b2cd309.html\" target=\"_blank\">for $200 million<\/a>, far more than <!--more-->he paid for it and the property <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/top_three\/broken-windows-power-plant-woes-from-revel-vacancy\/article_4876194c-8155-5a6a-b955-2e138b673840.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">can hardly be said to have gained value<\/a> in the interim. Straub, who claims to have fielded 50 inquiries about Revel, said it&#8217;s\u00a0\u201cworth over $200 million, minimum, period, on the worst day of its life.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/atlantic\/index.ssf\/2015\/09\/these_photos_show_the_rise_and_fall_of_the_24b_revel_casino.html\" class=\"broken_link\">What day would that be<\/a>, Glenn? In the meantime, Straub shakes a rhetorical fist at\u00a0&#8220;the biggest seagulls I&#8217;ve ever seen,&#8221; who have been making kamikaze attacks and dropping crabs on Revel, and is planning a second indoor water park (in addition to the <strong>Atlantic Club<\/strong>&#8216;s project) for the Boardwalk. That&#8217;s probably still the best idea he&#8217;s had for Revel.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/launch.newsinc.com\/?type=VideoPlayer\/Single&amp;widgetId=1&amp;trackingGroup=69016&amp;siteSection=atlanticcity_nws_non_sty_dynamic&amp;videoId=28868735\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>At least Straub&#8217;s long-running unpleasantness with <strong>ACR Energy Partners<\/strong> may soon be at an end. The power supplier is facing insolvency, which would enable Straub to take over its plant and keep the lights on at Revel, where he&#8217;s also installing solar panels on the roof of the garage.<\/p>\n<p>Over at Trump, Griffin is playing whack-a-mole with <strong>Unite-Here<\/strong>&#8216;s creative protest tactics. Having been barred from projecting pro-boycott messages onto \u00a0the fronts of the Plaza and <strong>Trump Taj Mahal<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/business\/taj-vs-local-not-your-typical-labor-dispute\/article_2f7a2d8c-57cc-11e5-b87f-537e1688736a.html\" target=\"_blank\">the union has deployed weather\u00a0balloons<\/a> that hover between 30 and 40 feet in the air, and carry aloft the message &#8220;BOYCOTT TAJ MA HOLE.&#8221;\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s not going to be in federal airspace, and we\u2019re going to stay out of the airspace that the Taj Mahal owns,\u201d said the union&#8217;s <strong>Jeremy Pollard<\/strong>. Whatever Griffin does, Local 54 seems to be always one step ahead. Atlantic City may not be the strongest casino market in America but it&#8217;s easily the most entertaining.<\/p>\n<p>* The debut of <strong>Wild Rose Jefferson<\/strong> softened the blow of a down month in <strong>Iowa<\/strong>, where gaming revenues were off 3.5%. Biggest loser overall was Caesars, whose two properties combined for a 10.5% decline, while the biggest winner was <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong>, up 4%, mainly driven by <strong>Diamond Jo Dubuque<\/strong>. <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong> held steady at <strong>Ameristar Council Bluffs<\/strong>, while the brunt of the misfortune fell on small operators like <strong>Terrible&#8217;s Lakeside<\/strong> (-11%) and <strong>Rhythm City Casino<\/strong> (-14%). The absence of a Labor Day weekend obviously hurt and the novelty factor seems to have worn off for <strong>Hard Rock Casino<\/strong> in <strong>Sioux City<\/strong>, down 8.5%.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0Visitation may have been 7% less in <strong>Missouri<\/strong> but customers dropped 5% more into the slots and onto the tables, keeping the August doldrums to a 2.5% decline, hardly worth remarking upon. Pinnacle was flat at <strong>River City<\/strong> and 8% down at <strong>Ameristar St. Charles<\/strong>.\u00a0(Pinnacle&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/SC_Exterior_WebRGB.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-16717\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/SC_Exterior_WebRGB-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"SC_Exterior_WebRGB\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/SC_Exterior_WebRGB-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/SC_Exterior_WebRGB-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/SC_Exterior_WebRGB-1024x767.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/SC_Exterior_WebRGB.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0was 2% off.) <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> may have been down 2% at <strong>Argosy Riverside<\/strong> in K.C., but it gained a pretty remarkable 13% at <strong>Hollywood St. Louis<\/strong>. Caesars may was\u00a0a bit off at <strong>Harrah&#8217;s North Kansas City<\/strong> (-4%) but <strong>Tropicana Entertainment<\/strong> is really struggling with <strong>Lumiere Place<\/strong>, which plunged 18%. (Tropicana also has to cope with impeded access, due to <strong>Gateway Arch<\/strong> renovations.)\u00a0<strong>Isle of Capri Casinos<\/strong>&#8216; quartet averaged a 2.5% dip.<\/p>\n<p>Now that Penn landlord <strong>Gaming &amp; Leisure Properties<\/strong> proposes to acquire the assets of Pinnacle, that will leave Lumiere Place as the only non-GLPI property in the <strong>St. Louis<\/strong> area. Antitrust laws being what they are, this might be an opportunity for an entrepreneur like <strong>Tilman Fertitta<\/strong> to snap up an excess casino or two &#8212; or for Caesars to get back into a marketplace it should never have quit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now that wacky Glenn Straub is out of the picture, Stockton University says it is fielding offers for the ex-Showboat.
