They&#8217;d better not be, as there&#8217;s nothing much in the area besides <strong>Bonanza Gifts<\/strong>, the <strong>Golden Steer<\/strong> restaurant and <strong>SLS Las Vegas<\/strong>. The latter, however, has already pinned its hopes for survival on <!--more-->the Lucky Dragon&#8217;s success. I dunno. Gamblers who make the Lucky Dragon their base of operations may not have much <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Lucky-Dragon-Allure.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-16752\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Lucky-Dragon-Allure-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Lucky Dragon Allure\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Lucky-Dragon-Allure-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Lucky-Dragon-Allure-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Lucky-Dragon-Allure-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Lucky-Dragon-Allure.jpg 1030w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>incentive to seek the\u00a0offerings at SLS, which has more restaurants <a href=\"http:\/\/vegasinc.com\/business\/gaming\/2015\/sep\/11\/lucky-dragon-hotel-casino-project-progress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">but lacks the Chinese-targeted amenities<\/a> (including private gambling rooms) planned for Lucky Dragon. And it cuts both ways: With only 206 hotel rooms at Lucky Dragon, SLS could find itself a &#8220;dormitory&#8221; for Lucky Dragon players. Also, will the Lucky Dragon&#8217;s target clientele embrace its isolated location. Like SLS, they&#8217;re banking on the completion of <strong>Resorts World Las Vegas<\/strong>, but that&#8217;s a long ways away, both geographically and temporally. Will Chinese players want to stay so far away from the heart of the action of the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong>, way down at <strong>Bellagio<\/strong> and its ilk? <strong>Union Gaming<\/strong> analyst <strong>Chris Jones<\/strong> exaggerates Lucky Dragon&#8217;s proximity to <strong>Chinatown<\/strong>. If it&#8217;s &#8220;barking up the right tree,&#8221; what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/William-Weidner.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-16751\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/William-Weidner-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"William-Weidner\" width=\"232\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/William-Weidner-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/William-Weidner-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/William-Weidner.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a>about <strong>Palazzo<\/strong> and <strong>Wynncore<\/strong>, which are a straight shot down <strong>Spring Mountain Road<\/strong> from Chinatown? (Ironically, former <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> lieutenant <strong>William Weidner<\/strong> is currently flying under the radar as Lucky Dragon president.) And, as <em>Vegas Tripping<\/em> points out, Lucky Dragon will have to generate a player database from the ground up. As a boutique property with a highly targeted clientele, Lucky Dragon might succeed where SLS is failing but it&#8217;s not a sure thing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contrary to some alarmist, the-sky-is-falling reportage on the <strong>Internet<\/strong>, the theft of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/wynn-troubled-junket-operator-doesnt-owe-us-money\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">as much as $258 million<\/a> in junket money <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/macau_wynn.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-14268\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/macau_wynn-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"macau_wynn\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/macau_wynn-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/macau_wynn-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/macau_wynn.jpg 670w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>&#8220;will likely only have a minor negative impact on VIP market gross gaming revenue&#8221; in <strong>Macao<\/strong>, according to <strong>Stern Agee<\/strong> analyst <strong>David Bain<\/strong>. And <strong>Credit Suisse<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Kenneth Fong<\/strong> adds that there is &#8220;no financial risk&#8221; to <strong>Wynn Macau<\/strong>, where the pilferage of junketeer <strong>Dore Group<\/strong> took place. Wynn even went out of its way to say that Dore wasn&#8217;t in hock to the casino and continues to operate in good standing.<\/li>\n<li>Elsewhere in Macao, favorite son <strong>Stanley Ho<\/strong> came up against the government&#8217;s slow-as-molasses approval process for new projects or, in this case, a revamping of his oldest, most decrepit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Stanley-Ho-440.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2595\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Stanley-Ho-440-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Stanley Ho 440\" width=\"172\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Stanley-Ho-440-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Stanley-Ho-440-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Stanley-Ho-440.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 172px) 100vw, 172px\" \/><\/a>gaming \u00a0house, <strong>Casino Jai Alai<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/jai-alai-revamp-was-delayed-by-govt-approvals-sjm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Having endured two shutdowns<\/a> of work while waiting for governmental approval, <strong>Sociedade de Jogos de Macau<\/strong> is now on a mid-2016 timeline for the reopening of Casino Jai Alai, an $84.5 million project. It is expected to go with an all-mass-market positioning, SJM having been singed by what a\u00a0<strong>Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd<\/strong>. report described as being &#8220;still too focused on VIP and satellite business.\u201d\u00a0It&#8217;s also an all-gaming\/no-amenity sort of operator, which makes it doubly vulnerable to the current recesssion.<\/li>\n<li>Could <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> be making a comeback? Its eight surviving casinos <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/atlantic\/index.ssf\/2015\/09\/atlantic_city_casino_revenue.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">are up 3%, year to date<\/a>. As <strong>New Jersey Casino Control Commission<\/strong> Chairman <strong>Matthew Levinson<\/strong> says,\u00a0&#8220;My hope is that continues throughout the entire winter.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Because somebody had to do it, <em>Vital Vegas<\/em> has come up with &#8220;Chip Designs We&#8217;d Like to See.&#8221; You have to <a href=\"http:\/\/vitalvegas.com\/las-vegas-casino-chip-designs-wed-like-to-see\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">see it for yourself<\/a> to appreciate it. The <strong>Treasure Island<\/strong> one is my favorite.<\/li>\n<li>As might be expected, the <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong> was quick to respond to Gov. <strong>Scott Walker<\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/politics\/elections\/las-vegas-walker-unveils-labor-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">controversial<\/a>\u00a0<strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> visit, although <a href=\"http:\/\/www.culinaryunion226.org\/news\/press\/statement-regarding-governor-scott-walkers-town-hall-in-las-vegas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">its pushback was mighty thin<\/a> on specifics.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/natural-resources-defense-council\/a-whale-of-a-win-afeb1f0cb71a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">feel-good story<\/a> for today.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Builders of $135 million\u00a0Lucky Dragon Casino, across Sahara Avenue from the former Circus Circus RV park, are fast-tracking the project for a mid-2016 opening.
