The brainchild of Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Zalewski.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-17088\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Zalewski.jpg\" alt=\"Zalewski\" width=\"190\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Zalewski.jpg 190w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Zalewski-107x150.jpg 107w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 190px) 100vw, 190px\" \/><\/a><strong>Mike Zalewski<\/strong> (D), &#8220;it would\u00a0create standards for auditing daily fantasy companies that want to do business in the state and prohibit their employees from playing in contests on other sites, among other restrictions,&#8221; according to the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>.\u00a0\u201cThere\u2019s a lack of clarity on whether [DFS]\u00a0is gambling or game of skill and from what I can tell it\u2019s its own thing,\u201d Zalewski told the paper.<\/p>\n<p>The DFS industry has been hewing to a party line that it&#8217;s open to regulation and the reaction to Zalewski&#8217;s bill was <!--more-->no different.\u00a0\u201cWe welcome the opportunity to work with Rep. Zalewski and lawmakers in Illinois to safeguard consumers, introduce best practices that the entire fantasy industry can adhere to, and ensuring that sports fans across Illinois can continue to play fantasy sports,\u201d <strong>FanDuel<\/strong> CEO <strong>Nigel Eccles<\/strong> said. (Now if only Zalewski could deter those unrelenting FanDuel TV commercials.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>DraftKings<\/strong> raised FanDuel&#8217;s ante, calling the Zalewski bill\u00a0\u201ca reasonable and measured step toward oversight of fantasy sports.\u201d This isn&#8217;t Zalewski&#8217;s first rodeo. He tried to introduce what he called &#8220;a shell bill,&#8221; a precursor to his new effort, last April but the clock ran out on the legislative session. The <strong>Ethan Haskell<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metro.us\/new-york\/who-is-ethan-haskell-draftkings-employee-at-center-of-daily-fantasy-sports-controversy\/zsJojf---0JwLwWJf9u1E\/\" target=\"_blank\">scandal<\/a> spurred him back into action.
