The ever-unpredictable billionaire&#8217;s latest plan for the megaresort is to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/glenn-straub-says-he-d-house-syrian-refugees-at-revel\/article_be6851ec-824a-11e5-ba57-07f79d340438.html\" target=\"_blank\">use it to house Syrian refugees<\/a>. However, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/atlantic\/index.ssf\/2015\/11\/revel_owner_says_hed_put_up_syrian_refugees_at_cas.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">this homeless-hostel offer<\/a> is good for only so long as it takes Straub to hash out a long-term strategy for Revel.<\/p>\n<p>Straub has no shortage of ideas for Atlantic City but they&#8217;re scattershot and seemingly whimsical. For instance, flying in VIP players via 25 jets from airports in the eastern U.S. hardly seems to <!--more-->address the city&#8217;s underlying problem of a lack of bread-and-butter players. As for the Syrian-refugee problem, a poll by <em>The Press of Atlantic City<\/em> found 75% opposed while 17% wanted to know whether they&#8217;d be relaxing in Straub&#8217;s planned water park or taking classes in his genius academy.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0Daily fantasy sports &#8220;is obviously gambling,&#8221; writes <strong>George F. Will<\/strong> but he attributes sudden governmental interest in the activity to envy of\u00a0the taxable income that&#8217;s slipping away. Will has no love for <strong>UIGEA<\/strong>, deeming that attempt to stamp out <strong>Internet<\/strong> gambling as &#8220;Prohibition 2.0,&#8221; adding &#8220;Someday the number of Americans who bet on the <strong>Super Bowl<\/strong> will be approximately equal to the number of Americans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But, Will adds, &#8220;In\u00a0fantasy sports, as in real sports &#8230;\u00a0some people excel, usually because they work harder than others.&#8221; (If he follows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Will.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-17151\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Will.jpg\" alt=\"Will\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Will.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Will-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 160px) 100vw, 160px\" \/><\/a>that argument to its logical conclusion, Will should support the rights of advantage players and condemn <strong>Phil Ivey<\/strong>&#8216;s persecution for &#8220;edge sorting.&#8221;) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/prohibition-20-targets-gambling\/2015\/10\/28\/cdf963a4-7cd6-11e5-b575-d8dcfedb4ea1_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">He argues that DFS is already regulated<\/a> by market forces and is policing itself in a satisfactory fashion. In other words, nothing to see here, folks, move along &#8212; not even the conundrum that one form of Internet gambling is A-OK but all others remain off-limits.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Westgate Las Vegas<\/strong> is getting primed to charge customers for parking. <em>LVA<\/em> sources have reported &#8220;parking ticket dispensers and<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/hilton-pic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7043\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/hilton-pic.jpg\" alt=\"hilton-pic\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/hilton-pic.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/hilton-pic-150x99.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>gates at the entrances and pay machines by the elevators.&#8221; Parking is still free at the moment but a changeover seems inevitable. If that&#8217;s the case, it&#8217;s a big &#8220;fuck you&#8221; to <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> locals and a hardship for those of us who have to go to casinos like the Westgate on business. Once again, the casinos seem determined to take a big bite out of your wallet even before you can gamble in the casinos or eat in one of the high-priced restaurants. It seems like self-defeating business policy but a trail of lemmings is beginning to form, headed seaward. The pay-for-parking kerfuffle is the subject of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/poll.cfm\">our current <em>LVA<\/em> poll<\/a>. Vote early and often.<\/p>\n<p>* Perhaps recognizing the futility of trying to compete with <strong>South Point<\/strong>, it&#8217;s been decided by <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> to put its 57-acre <strong>Cactus Lane<\/strong> parcel on the market for $40 million. The land sits just south of South Point and the hideous <strong>Grandview<\/strong> condo development. South Point has mastered the tricky balancing act of appealing to tourists while being well off the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong> and the loyalty of its customers seems deeply entrenched. If Station (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/station-casinos-seeks-sell-south-strip-land-parcel-40-million\" target=\"_blank\">which is removing the gaming entitlement<\/a> &#8212; hence the low price &#8212; from the Cactus Lane site) wants to get back into development, there&#8217;s always on-again\/off-again <strong>Durango Station<\/strong> waiting to be built.
