It wants to build a <strong>Hard Rock International<\/strong> casino in 2018, opposite <strong>Mercedes-Benz Stadium<\/strong>, where the <strong>Atlanta Falcons<\/strong> will play. Hard Rock CEO <strong>James Allen<\/strong> said the company would build the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Georgia-flag.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-17155\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Georgia-flag.png\" alt=\"Georgia flag\" width=\"284\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Georgia-flag.png 284w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Georgia-flag-150x93.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 284px) 100vw, 284px\" \/><\/a>hotel even without gambling but &#8220;Hard Rock could be your solution.\u201d Whoever gets the primary <strong>Atlanta<\/strong> license had better bring a big checkbook: The proposed license fee is $1 billion, while the five other casinos would only require $200 million upfront.<\/p>\n<p>Reported the <em>Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/em>, &#8220;The companies have made an effort to sell themselves as legitimate and transparent businesses that welcome robust regulations,&#8221; and won&#8217;t require <!--more-->state handouts to do business in the Peachtree State. <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> CEO <strong>Keith Smith<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myajc.com\/news\/news\/state-regional-govt-politics\/casinos-to-georgia-well-pay-more-taxes-if-you-let-\/npD7h\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">balked at the idea of a high tax rate<\/a> but preached the gospel of how casino amenities can enrich the wider community. He kept his message simple, saying,\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re not looking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Keith-Smith.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-17156\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Keith-Smith.jpg\" alt=\"Keith Smith\" width=\"207\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Keith-Smith.jpg 207w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Keith-Smith-128x150.jpg 128w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/><\/a>for anything other than approval to be legal.\u201d Legislators <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/news\/state-regional-govt-politics\/georgia-lawmakers-told-to-regulate-daily-fantasy-s\/npFQp\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">pressed him on the topic of daily fantasy sports<\/a>, spurring Smith to say,\u00a0\u201cThis is a form of gambling. I am not opposed to daily fantasy sports, but I am opposed to unregulated forms of gambling. Games of skill require the participant to do something, shoot a basketball through a hoop. Daily fantasy sports you don\u2019t control the outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Church groups predictably weighed in against casinos, brandishing such bogeymen as sex trafficking and pathological gambling.\u00a0 \u201cThe biggest losers will be the children in the state of Georgia, the very ones who would be the very beneficiaries of expanded gambling in Georgia,\u201d sniffed the <strong>Baptist Convention<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Mike Griffin<\/strong>, alluding to the <strong>HOPE Scholarships<\/strong> gambling is intended to rescue.\u00a0\u201cI certainly hope our people aren\u2019t going to sell themselves for 30 pieces of silver,\u201d Griffin added, likening the electorate to <strong>Judas Iscariot<\/strong>, in a particularly low blow.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers have until Dec. 1 to recommend gambling expansion to their colleagues. However, it looks like they&#8217;ll duck out and issue a noncommital &#8220;fact-finding&#8221; report. With the horseracing industry lobbying to be allowed into Georgia and legislators pondering whether to regulate DFS, they&#8217;ll have a lot of gaming-issues on their plate when they reconvene next year.<\/p>\n<p>* At the current pace, DFS will be regulated at the state level long before <strong>Congress<\/strong> gets around to doing anything. (One has come to expect contemptibly little from <strong>Capitol Hill<\/strong>.) <strong>New York<\/strong>, <strong>Minnesota<\/strong> and <strong>Illinois<\/strong> have bills in the hopper, with <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> soon to join them with &#8220;one of the strictest regulatory authorities in the world,&#8221; according to state Sen. <strong>James Whelan<\/strong> (D). \u201cI don\u2019t believe we should impede one\u2019s enjoyment of fantasy sports. However, we have an obligation to ensure that fantasy sports competition is fair, impartial, and transparent to everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Empire State Assemblyman <strong>Felix Ortiz<\/strong> (D), author of the New <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Felix-Ortiz.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-17157\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Felix-Ortiz.jpg\" alt=\"Felix Ortiz\" width=\"107\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Felix-Ortiz.jpg 107w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Felix-Ortiz-100x150.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 107px) 100vw, 107px\" \/><\/a>York bill, took a similarly hard line. \u201cThis is an unregulated industry with a great deal of money in play. We should regulate fantasy sports the same way we oversee racing and the lotteries.
